Any suggestions? Right now I have vertical blinds over the patio doors, I hate them, and they are a pain, plus the kids have wrecked them by thrashing around in them (no exaggeration).
I would like some privacy curtains (in other words, not sheer). I like thermal curtains, but lined I guess is fine..
Do
you know if I just buy regular curtains, but in long panels? Is there a standard size
to cover a door? I know there is 84, 95, and 105(?) lengths. Do I need
a heavy duty curtain rod?
My door is only 5' wide, which is narrow for a patio door (sort of like a french door, but only half opens).
Any suggestions, thoughts, etc would be appreciated! I know places like JC Penney has nice curtains, although I hate having to order and wait (I like instant gratification).. it would be nice to have them up when DH returns from China.
Re: Patio door curtains
I have a few sets of curtains for my living room which includes the patio door. I got both sets at JC Penney. One set I was able to get right at the store but the other set I wanted a particular color and I had to order them but they came in a few weeks later even though they thought it would take a few months. JC Penneys has a decent selection of curtains right at the store. If not, Kohl's or Sears might have some decent curtains too.
The patio door curtains match my window curtains but they are longer. Measure the height of your door to know which size you have. You can get a heavy duty rod but really you just need one that has an extra support in the middle to hold the rod in 3 places instead of two. I bought 2 panels and they cover the entire door if I want it to. Usually I just put them to the side to cover the part of the door that doesn't open.
I am sure you can just get regular curtains if that is what you want, but is it a door you use often? If that is the case, you'll probably not want to just be pushing the curtains out of the way to get the door open.. ya know?
My mom has curtains on her big living room bay window that she can pull open with a string.. I think they are called "pinch pleated" and they have to be hung on a special rod.. and I remember looking for them with her and they were SO hard to find... She would go to stores and ask for them and no one had any clue what she was talking about.. I THINK she finally got them at JCPenney, but I am not certain.
