XP: small vacuum that is good on carpets and hardwood floors

Thanks for the recommendations!  Our place is pretty small and I don't have room to store a big vacuum.

Re: XP: small vacuum that is good on carpets and hardwood floors

  • I just got a Shark Navigator and LOVE it.  It's small, lightweight, and the top lifts off for stairs or if you need to get up into corners, etc.  I liked mine so much that my mom and sister both have it now, too, even though they live in larger homes than I. It's worked well on my tile and carpet. I got mine at BB&B for $159, plus 20% off. It was a great deal and I highly recommend it.
  • The BEST solution for hardwood floors is the Swiffer Sweeper.  When my husband and I moved into our home we installed all hardwood and wound up purchasing over five products to use on our floors that were all unsatisfactory.  We finally stopped wasting money when we bought the Swiffer.

The best combination for us has been the Swiffer for vacuum/sweeping and a rectangular flat mop rung out in hot water for cleaning.
