So, uh... bcp question (maybe tmi)
So what do you do if you vomit up a birth control pill? I took my pill Monday night and seconds later got sick (not from the pill, I was sick). I wonder if I should have then taken the next one? I took last night's on time.
My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

Re: So, uh... bcp question (maybe tmi)
I ditto Megan, I think if it's just one you're ok.
I think for some people, missing the day is okay. For others (like paranoid me or someone very fertile), it would be a good idea to take the next one in the pack. Or double up the next day (like they recommend if you've missed one). It will just mean your cycle will be one day shorter this month.
What? You mean you didn't pick the pill out of your vomit and take it again?
Too much? (seriously, this is the first thing I thought when I read your post)
You'll be fine. Probably you shouldn't have sex tonight. But if you're throwing up, that may already be a given...
also - if you're worried about barfing up tomorrow's, you can take it as a suppository...except not up your ass.
There's really no delicate way to say that, is there?
Feel better!
So I have an aunt who is a nurse, and at last nights get-together was telling us about the often hilarious things she's seen on birth control packages, and things doctors have had to tell their patients about the use of birth control pills and one of them was "don't put it in your vagina" (of course a cousin walked into the conversation only hears that last part. hilarious). Also, "don't give it to your boyfriend," and "taking 3 or 4 at the same time won't help,." were on the list. So, according to my nurse aunt "putting it up your vagina" isn't such a good method.

I have never heard of putting it up the va-jay-jay and I would say that is a questionable method of taking the pills. Although you may get mucous membrane absorption, it is not made to go that way and it is not reliably absorbed. If you can't take them orally due to the illness, then may want to stop the pack, ride out the cycle, (have period, use back up ) and start fresh with a new pack on the first Sunday after the period starts or on the day the period starts if no longer puking. Sorry you are so ill
I've had two different OBGYNs tell me that it's ok for one or two pills if you're ill. But more than that and to just give up and start over next cycle.
that's actually the recommendation if you're vomitting.... and i'm a nurse too...
Yeah, I'm sure she was talking about everyday use as opposed to one time when sick, though I'd never heard of doing that if you're vomiting. Very interesting.
