So... We picked up Callie yesterday... and she almost killed my cats today. Twice... Needless to say, we have to return her tomorrow.... other than super cat aggressive she is SUCH a good doggie.... she is smart and has so much training potential, not to mention she's SUPER cute....
She doesn't bark, like not once did we hear her bark. Even when we were walking her and the neighbor dogs were barking at her, she was just like...meh. Not even bothered. So then we did a "control" meeting with one of my cats today and it DID NOT go well... she LUNNGGEEDD at him and was showing teeth and barking and drooling... had we not been holding my cat, my cat would have been her chew toy. It was definetely not like an "Oh let's play!" type of bark... It was like... "Oh, you'd make a nice snack!" type bark.
I have to drive her back tomorrow morning... I'm dissapointed but luckily didn't grow TOO attached just yet. I'm just glad we found out now and not when we're not home and had to come home to a dead kitty.... DH and I are just going to stop looking for a while... we're just kinda discouraged at the moment. I know we'll find a dog that is good with cats eventually, but not right now.
Thanks for all the support though! ![]()

How sad! I'm so sorry, Theresa, that she wasn't friendly to your cats. I'm so glad that they weren't hurt. Hope that the perfect dog comes along soon!
Aw, Theresa, that really sucks!!! Keep your head up... like others said, you'll find the right puppy!!

Perfect love drives out fear.
Is it possible to keep them separated and keep trying "introductions" for a little bit longer, rather than immediately returning the dog? I'd hate to see you lose a great dog over something that has the potential to get better.
I fully admit that I'm not really pet savvy, but I know many people who have enrolled their dogs in programs/classes that help them live peacefully with other animals when they found that hostility or aggression came out when they were together.
In any event, I'm sorry that it didn't go very well and wish you the best of luck with the continued dog adventures.
oh Theresa, so disappointing! I'm sorry!
I know the feeling of dogs/cats not getting along. Funnily enough, it's my parents cat who hates our dog (and not the other way around, of the dog hating the cat). My parents house is like a war zone when we visit, unless one animal is upstairs and the other is downstairs.
I'm sure you'll find your perfect match in time! Best of luck.

That's sad
I know the shelter we go to allows you to bring in other pets to meet a potential adoptee before you take them home. I don't know if you are looking for a shelter dog, but maybe you could find a shelter that does this.
