Diaper question for Mom's

We received an extremely large amount of size 1 diapers.  Do you remember how many weeks you used these for?  I'm thinking I may need to exchange for a different size.  We probably have close to about 500 size 1's (plus about 100 newborn)  and I've heard that baby can quickly jump up to 2's.

I'm having another shower in a few weeks and I'm definitely going to wait until after then to make my final decision.

TIA!

Re: Diaper question for Mom's

  • Nate was a fairly large baby in the beginning, but he's been average size since he was 3 or 4 months old.

We used NBs for 2 weeks, just until his umbilical stump fell off, at 10ish diapers per day. I think we used size 1s for 4 weeks. He could have stayed in them longer, but the 1/2s were more diapers for the same price, so we moved up as soon as we'd used all our gift diapers. I think we bought 2 or 3 big packs of 1/2s, 1 or 2 packs of size 2, and he's been in size 3 for over 6 months.

  • I wouldn't make an exchanges on diapers until you know you're not going to use them ... i.e., when baby moves from size 1 to size 2, then exchange them but not before.

My DD was a tiny baby for a very long time - she wore size one for months (at a year old, she only weighed about 18 lbs), but my son wore them for only a few weeks. Every baby is different, and you just can't predict what they will or will not need in the future. Just my .02.

    That exactly.

Amelia was a tiny baby and was in newborn/size 1 for months.

  • We used size 1's that we had gotten from showers up until a couple weeks ago and could probably still get away with it for daytime use (when we can change her as soon as we know she's dirtied or wet a diaper). The Pampers size 1s  go up to 14lbs and she is about 13 lbs at 3 months (was 7'14 at birth).

We used NB diapers up until we ran out, then I just bought size 1-2's, which we are using up until they are gone, then we will switch to 2's. My sitter switched her to 1-2's while we were still using 1's, and wants her in 2's while we are still using up the 1-2's, but she changes her on a schedule when she changes all the other kids, so she needs to buy a little time.

Use your big packages first, so you're less likely to be caught with an open package when you need to go up a size. We have a package of 1's that was JUST opened, so I'm putting it in a gift bag with some other things and giving it to a co-worker who is having a C-section on 1/13.
