Yesterday, DH nearly burned down the house with a bag of popcorn in the microwave.
Does anyone know how to get burnt popcorn smell out of the house? I've had the windows open part of the day, but with temperatures tonight in the 30s, that's not a practical solution. Is there a spray or something that might help?
The microwave stinks also. I've tried cleaning it with Windex, Clorox Green Works, and soap and water. Any ideas on how to get the smell out of the micro short of making DH buy a new one? Thanks!
Re: Burnt Popcorn Smell
for the microwave, try:
> put a bowl full of lemon juice and microwave for 3 minutes
> leave some charcoal briquettes in the microwave over night
For the room:
Put bowls of coffee grounds and of vinegar (separately, not together, of course!) around the room to help absorb the odor for a day or two.
For microwaves that have had smoke/fire - if you clean it and it smells better, but the smoke smell returns after using, the microwave is a fire hazard and should be repaired or replaced, just to give you an idea of what to look for.
As far as the smell - my DH once put some black beans on the stove and fell asleep. I woke up hours and hours later because the house was full of smoke. It took a good 7 days before the smell died down, but it did go away. We cracked windows as much as possible and left out vinegar, the rest was just patience. GL!
