vacuum cleaners

What brand do you have and are you happy with it?

Our vacuum is only 2 years old and has broken a few times already. Andrew and I are thinking we might want a dyson but I wanted to get more opinions.

Re: vacuum cleaners

  • I use our ShopVac to do all the vacuuming. Embarrassed  It takes a little longer to do all the vacuuming, but I can do all our different surfaces with it.  And it sucks so well!!!!

  • We had a hoover and it sucked, well it didn't which was the problem, broke within a year.  A coworker gave me her kenmore b/c it was too heavy for her and that thing is a lug, but does pretty well.

I'm thinking dyson, but we need something that will do carpeted stairs well and so far we can't find anything that meets that need.

  • I have to say I am still very happy with my Dyson it is the original. My only complaint is the hose on mine can be awkward and I feel like I have to clean my hair out of it a lot but really I can't blame it for that part.

I have mostly hardwood and tile with only two rooms of carpet but we use it everywhere.

  • If you do get a dyson, check amazon and overstock, you can sometimes find deals on refurbished models.
  • We had a Dyson and didn't like it, then we got the Bissell Pet Hair and we've had that for about 4-5 years and it works great, though it just broke, so I got the Shark Navigator for Xmas and I love it. It's SO lightweight and small but it works the best to me at least.
  • We have a Dyson. I think it works great and I can go from our tile, to hardwoods, to carpet with ease. I wish I had the ball though.

  • I have the Dyson Animal. Though I do love it, it is kinda bulky at times.  I absolutely loved it when we lived in our apartment that was all carpet except the kitchen/bathrooms. However, now that we are at my parents who have almost all hardwood, I do wish it had a larger attachment for the hose to do the hardwoods. It is heavy so if you have to carry it up stairs, I recommend going for the Dyson Ball which is lighter weight.

Previously we had a Hoover WindTunnel or somethign like that.  I did love that vaccum.  We would probably still have it if it wasn't for the dog.  It just didn't pick up the dog hair as well as the dyson does.
