Weening off the bottle?

When did you completely lose the bottle? Luke is down to only a bottle at night. Just curious if we should try to nix it all together.

Re: Weening off the bottle?

  • Our pedi said Josh should be totally off them by 14 or 15 months and I think by the time we got to 13 we were totally done and they were packed away.

  • I don't have experience with this as a mom yet, but I know the oral motor gurus in my field are always saying a year, as prolonged use can impact speech and swallow function.  I do think there's some wiggle room in there though.   I've had a 7 year old with a bottle.  Wouldn't recommend waiting that long. Stick out tongue

  • He went to bed without a bottle tonight. Hopefully he sleeps good and we can pack up the bottles for the next 5 months :)

  • It's been a while so my memory is foggy, but I think Helen was around 14 or 15 months when we switched her bedtime bottle to a bedtime sippy cup.  She took the bedtime sippy cup until she was about 18 months, I think.

  • Owen started rejecting the nighttime bottle around 13 months (once it became 100% whole milk and 0% breast milk).  We switched him to a sippy of water, ditching the nighttime pacifier shortly after as well.  No problems, no looking back.
