Do you make NY resolutions?

Re: Do you make NY resolutions?

  • I made 2.

    1. Go to the gym a minimum of 12 times a month.

    2. Go see one live [music] show each month.

  • I don't make any hard and fast resolutions.  I just give myself a "clean slate" and wipe out any residual guilt I may have about being such a glutton over the holidays.  It's a new year so a great time for a "new start."  I don't quantify or qualify what that "new start" has to be though.

  • I've never really made resolutions in the past. I've thought about things I wanted to do, but never wrote them down or shared them with anyone, and I have never actually accomplished any of the resolutions I thought about.

So, this year, I actually made a list and posted it on the fridge at home so I will see it every day and hopefully work toward those goals. It's harder to blow off the list of goals when it's in front of your face every day. Some things are pretty simple, others not so much. I chose 8 goals since Andy thinks 8 is a lucky number :-)

    My goals/resolutions for 2011 are:

    1. Organize/clean at least one closet/junk drawer each month.

    2. Lose 10 pounds (maybe 15 ... but we'll start with 10).

    3. Find a new place to volunteer (my previous volunteer organization closed).

    4. Use at least 3/4 of the vacation days I earn, even if we don't have a trip planned and I just "staycation". (I earn 24 days of vacation each year, but last year, I only used 8 days. I'm holding my max number of vacation days, so I can't accrue any more vacation until I take some time off. I need to remind myself that we earn vacation days for a reason and I should take more time off!)

    5. Thoughtfully contemplate where my career is going and make any necessary changes ... which likely means either doing a search for a new job or exploring options for further education.

    6. Drink more water and less diet soda.

    7. Learn to garden (specifically ... plant a vegetable garden this summer).

    8. Finish sewing the quilt I started 4 years ago.

  • In the past, I've done the standard "lost weight" resolution, but this year I'm aiming for something more reasonable and more necessary.... I'm going to learn fluent Spanish w/ Chilean slang so I can talk to my sibs this summer when I visit!
  • I make goals. I even pulled out the construction paper from my craft space and a ruler and made a chart and posted it on my fridge. The goals on there are things like go to the gym 3 days a week. I figure if I set a goal to lose 10lbs it's too fluid. Too many factors go into what I weigh, way more than just going to the gym or not. I know that if I go to the gym 3 days a week I am doing myself some good and that is a tangible attainable goal for me.

I also have on there to drink 64oz of water a day, yesterday was day one of the goals sheet and I only got in about 30oz. It's a start...
