So, the anniversary party went off without a hitch. Mom started speaking to me a few days ago and dropped the whole cake issue and didn't even fight us on it when we said (after the party) to pitch the rest of the top rather than save it.
It wasn't too bad, I thought, until I tried to fresh one. Haha. Delicious.
I was so exhausted after that we went to bed early, skipped the boingetyboing, and went right to sleep. Then slept for 13 hours! Glorious.
Hope you other January 2nd girls had a good day.

Re: Party recap
that's great that everything worked out!
we slept in, washed dishes from before christmas (that we had to leave in our whirlwind travel changes), finally brought the christmas gifts in from my car, cleaned the appt...then we finally relaxed with pepper and watched tv.
we also ordered some take out from a local place. it was quiet, but very very nice.
congrats girls!
C's gift to me was to take me into town and let me do all the baby registry shopping I wanted to do.
After that I made a delicious seafood dinner and we ate our cake. Yep, we actually ate the year old frozen cake. It was decent, and we'll never forget it. The cake itself was good, but the icing tasted like freezer burn. That was our night, it was fun.
Oh, and C's best friend, one of our GM, had his first baby that night. It was definitely the best phone call we got that day, and I'm sure we will never forget our 1st anniversary!
I wish I could tell you how many times I had to re-read boingetyboing to get it. Then I laughed. I'm slow this morning.
I'm glad the party went well and that your guests didn't have to eat year old cake! Unfortunately (or fortunately?) we never got our top tier, so there was no freezer burned cake for us. We drove home from Wisconsin on the 2nd and went straight to a family party where we watched the Bears lose to the Packers. BOO. But we had food, beer and laughs - so, all in all, it was a good day!
