Cleaning help (XP)
Posted this on Cleaning & Organizing but don't know that I'll get any responses, so I'll ask you lovely ladies...
Another of my NY Res is to keep the house clean enough that I wouldn't be
embarrassed were someone to come over at a moments notice. I live in a
90 year old farm house with hardwood in the great room, linoleum in the
bathroom/laundry room/kitchen, carpet upstairs and unfinished cement
basement. Our shower is utilitarian and in the basement. My biggest
problems are clutter,
dust, and cat hair. A huge obstacle is Miss Thing going through a Mommy only phase, meaning she will only sleep in my arms in the evenings after 6:30- not by herself, not on DH, and she screams bloody murder if we try something else- I'm moving her to her crib on Thursday night (including putting her down in her room in the evenings instead of in the living room with us) so hopefully this will not be an issue too much longer.
The tools I have: a Bissell cyclonic vacuum, dustbuster, and a Shark steam mop (that I just got for Christmas and I LOVE).

I left you the most incredibly detailed and helpful response ever, but the nest decided it wasn't something that needed to be posted.
Post-Nate, I found housework manageable only by dividing it into small chunks. I made a list of things that should be done weekly (laundry, living room floor, kitchen floor) and things that can be every other week (cleaning bathrooms, extra cleaning in kitchen [besides what we do daily], bedroom floors, dusting). Then, I assigned each to a day.
We're still keeping up with it after 6 months.

Don't know if this helps, but I found a list posted and it wasn't exactly perfect for me so I did a little googling and this was my end result.
