Ugh...... I'm heading back to Seattle next week, and our marketing team just sent me my travel schedule.
I arrive back in Philly Wednesday night at 12:25am and I'm expected to be working first thing Thursday morning.....ugh.
I hate when other people book my travel.
Re: Work vent.....
Annoying. Can you work from home Thursday so you don't have to go through all the work of getting dressed and showered?
What are you planning to do with all the travel once Baby Prz arrives?
I'm going to block off half of Thursday and not allow anyone to schedule me appointments (working from home) but that won't stop doctors from calling my cell phone. Ugh.... Luckily, being due in July, my first trip won't be until October or November (that I can see, things can easily change with speaking engagements).
I'll be forced to keep up with the travel once Baby Prz is here. It's really not an option, and I'd be financially killed if I didn't go to the tradeshows and events.
My boss (due in Feb) will have 2 under 2, and she travels like a madwoman. It's hard to get sympathy from a woman that travels more now that she's a mom than she did before.
I was thinking you had to travel to keep up with your job. You're basically a badass. How long are you usually gone? Does Greg ever come with you?
2U2 while traveling for work does not seem possible to me! I am such a homebody, though. Different strokes.
My boss (with her first child) paid to bring her nanny with her when she traveled for work. This second child should be really interesting to see how she manages it.
If I were to bring Greg or my mom to help, their airfare and hotel rooms would be an extra expense. To cut costs, my company bunks us up and we share hotel rooms. If Greg or my mom comes, we have to pay for our own rooms.
Greg came to Toronto with me and the darn room cost almost a grand.
Typically I can be gone anywhere from overnight to 5-6 days.Luckily I only have a few big trips a year, the rest are pretty short.
I have a massive trip to Chicago coming up when I'm 30 weeks. Financially, I can't bring myself to skip it (we can afford to skip it, but last year I make $11k in 5 days). Greg may come with me to that one, just in case something happens while I'm there.
I talk a mean talk, but we'll see how this all comes together once the baby is here.
Yep.
It wasn't always like this, but they spent money like it was water and hit a financial brick wall last year. One of the ways they cut costs was same-sex room sharing. Even the CEO of the company bunks up with someone, so it's hard to complain when it's being done universally. There is only one male on the sales team, so he's solo unless one of the male execs comes.
That's what happens when you work for small vc funded start up company. We recycle bubble wrap like it's gold LOL
Ain't that the truth. My company doesn't make you bunk up when you travel together, but my old company (a fortune 20) did for tradeshows/conferences...client travel= own room. Weird...
Marcy, good luck w/ the travel. Are you feeling better now?
Is your company going to be tolerable (they'd have to be I assume) when you get to the point you can no longer fly?
Yes, at the end of the day, they'll be as close to awesome as possible (as long as it doesn't effect their bottom dollar). The company is probably 75% female.

Marcy-Have you told work yet?
I give such props to you for being such a trooper. I would have felt terrible doing the amount of traveling you do.
