I have bitten off part of my tongue....

The husband and I went to dinner tonight.  At the table next to us, the little kid kept coughing suspiciously.  It was somewhat loud in the restaurant but it became pretty noticeable to EVERYONE in the restaurant except for his parents.  Then he said "Mommy I don't feel good."  So...if you were that kid's mother, what would you do?  Well, this mother just patted him on the back (he continued to cough suspiciously) and what do you think happened?  He threw up. On the table.  Now, at this point, what would you do?  This mother/father kind of cleaned him up with a napkin and patted him on the back.

Three minutes later, all hell broke lose. The poor kid threw up EVERYWHERE.  This would be when I asked for us to be moved.  Never one time did these parents take this kid outside or to the restroom.  It was absolutely the most disgusting thing I have ever seen.  They took his shirt off - HIS SHIRT WITH THROW UP ON IT - and sat it on the empty table next to them. WTF is wrong with these people?  Finally, the people seated behind them said "CAN YOU TAKE YOUR KID TO THE BATHROOM PLEASE?"  Apparently not.  We moved, he continued to throw up the entire time we were in the restaurant, and they effectively cleared the entire place out.

How was your dinner?

  • I believe I'd have called over the manager and have him make them leave. People like that need to be humiliated.
  • Where the hell were you that management didn't do anything about this obvious (and disgusting) health hazard?!?!? Angry

  • When I moved, I said something to our waiter - I said "That kid at the table back there will not stop throwing up at the table." He looked mortified. The owner went back there and was EXTREMELY POLITE about it - but they didn't get it. Personally, I would have told them to get the hell out of there but I guess that's why I don't own my own business.  The owner/waiter was extremely apologetic but its not their fault these parents are completely stupid.

Good to know the management was there. WTF to the parents, though! It sounds like a bad SNL skit or something.

It does! That's exactly what it sounds like. It's just so unbelievable. You'd think that THEY'D be grossed out enough to where they couldn't eat, either. I bet they got some pretty vicious looks and comments sent their way.

The worst part was the the kid continued to dry heave the rest of the meal. I mean, who wants to listen to that?  And this must be a normal occurence because, seriously, how could they continue to eat during/after that?!?

  • Oh my God!  That is insane.  I guess I am super hypersensitve about my kid, because not only do I clean under the table after we eat out to make sure that the waitress doesn't have to do it but if he makes the slightest little peep I immediately take him out side.  I hate when parent's feel so entitled like everyone should just look the other way just because they have a kid.

Had to edit it because it sound like I was blaming the child.  It is not the poor kids fault that his parents are rude and inconsiderate.  I can't imagine just continuing my meal if my son was puking every where.

They sound incredibly selfish. I really hope some people said things that made them extremely uncomfortable. The kid's not at fault here, for sure, but the parents are not acceptable.

  • That makes me feel really awful for that little boy. Why wouldn't his parents take him home where he can lay down? Or atleast to the bathroom if he was continuing to throw up.

  • Seriously? I would've rushed JJ home [after stopping for Pedialyte and crackers] if he did that. Were the parents that concerned about dinner that they couldn't take their poor, sick kid home? I would've been livid. Wow.

  • Oh. Wow. I had a scenario recently that involved throw up at a restaurant. I was at the same table as the sick kid (friend of a friend of friends kid). He threw up on the way to dinner. Looked sick at dinner...was told he was faking it for attention. And the threw up in the hallway at the restaurant. She still went to the event after dinner with the sick kid. So sad.
  • That's disgusting. They should have split up--one parent taking the kid to the car, the other grabbing a to go box and paying the bill.
