NFP girls

I'm thinking about quitting my bc, but we're not ready to ttc just yet. I've been having lots of issues lately and from researching my type of bc it looks like the medicine could be the problem. rather than switching to another type and maybe having the same issues or having different ones, I'm thinking of just going 'chemical free' :)

Do you guys have any sites or books you could recommend for nfp?

Re: NFP girls

  • The book that's always recommended on the GP board is Taking Charge of Your Fertility, and fertilityfriend.com is a great site for charting (and there are free charting lessons included).

Another option is to take an NFP class, which is what I did.  You can go to the Couple to Couple League's website (http://ccli.org/) to find a list of classes in your area.  They'll be taught by Catholics, and so there will be some Catholic teaching involved (mainly the reminder that the Catholic church teaches that the use of birth control is wrong), but you would get the benefit of having trained teachers explaining all of the concepts in person, and they'll be right there to answer any questions you might have.

I'm also happy to answer any questions as you're figuring things out.  Smile

  • thanks carrie! I know you've given out this info a million times, but of course I didn't think I needed it. :) The class would be helpful, but the nearest one is about an hour out of town. I'll pick up that book from the library soon!
  • Heather sent me the book when I was TTC - I'll pass it on to you if you'd like!

  • Just a suggestion, but DH & I only use condoms.  Its the only form of BC I have ever used (I have never had any desire to take BCP and have those "chemicals" in my system).  It has worked for us so far!  GL :)
  • I have never read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility," but have heard great things about it. I think NFP is so good for all women to understand, regardless of whether or not they practice it regularly. I did a ton of research about it when DH and I started TTC, and I learned sooo much about my body, and it was really interesting.

I read "What To Expect Before You're Expecting," which may be another good resource for you. It talks a lot about charting and everything, and it's very straightforward and easy to understand.
