Can you talk to me about how you eat before and after running? Again, I've googled it and found a lot of conflicting information, so I'm just curious what you ladies do.
Thanks again for the tips on winter wardrobe options, I think I've got something that's working for me just fine.
If you get annoyed with my questions just tell me to STFU

Re: ** nota and phatkat **
Haha, I was just going to post something to YOU! Are you still doing the Bob Ronckers group?? I'm running with the KY group during the week (because at this point, I work late on Wednesdays) and the Ohio group on Saturdays. So I start tonight! I'm excited!! I did the New Year's Day 5 mile run with BR and everyone was super nice.I try to eat a healthy protein/carb mix, and nothing too heavy. I don't measure the protein/carb ratio or anything...but I'll do a smoothie (protein powder, frozen fruit, milk and yogurt), a ww english muffin with peanut butter and fruit or fruit and yogurt, oatmeal with nuts and raisins, an egg and cheese sandwich on an english muffin, etc. Substantial but not super filling. (Also depends on how hungry I am and how far I'm running - I can do 3-4 miles on not a lot of fuel but I need to make sure I'm satisfied if I want the energy to go further!) Some people don't eat that much before they run but I can't get away with it. All I had before the thanksgiving 10k was an english muffin with pb, and I would've killed someone for a bagel by mile 4.
I also usually run in the morning, that's why those are all breakfasty. If it's later in the day, I may do something like a turkey sandwich, maybe some ww pasta or rice with chicken and veggies. Maybe about half of a meal-sized portion.
A lot of it is experimentation with what works for you and gives you enough energy without pi$$ing off your stomach.
Oh yeah, after running - pretty much the same thing - a mix of complex carbs and lean protein. At least, in theory, when I don't give in to the "I just ran 8 miles, I deserve a bacon cheeseburger!" syndrome!
Also, I could pretty much talk all day about running and everything related to it, so ask away!
Yes, I signed up over the weekend and I'll start tomorrow in O'Bryonville. I guess I'll be seeing you on Saturday, then! Which group are you in?
I remember you mentioning your sub-par thanksgiving breakfast on your blog, that's actually what spurred my research. When we did P90X we used the protein/carb/fat ratios so I'm hoping to recycle the workbooks I made. I used to have the protein powder/yogurt/fruit smoothie every day for breakfast
Thanks for the tips!

Sweet; we did the P90x diet a while back so that's actually what I base a lot of my eating on, in a roundabout way. Counting grams and ounces and ratios makes me a bit nutty, so I don't do it, but I think I do still follow the p90x diet principles a lot.
I'll be there Saturday! I'm in group A.
Wow! I'm glad you posted - I thought the half group wasn't starting until Saturday! I didn't realize there was a run tonight in Ohio. That's what I get for thinking I know it all and skipping the info session. LOL. I've already scheduled a group run with some BR friends elsewhere, but their timing is a little tight for me so I 'maybe'd' it. Maybe if I think I'm cutting it too close, I'll run from Ronckers instead. Hmmm. Possibilities...
Food - morning runs under 4 miles - a few sips of coffee & about half a Mojo powerbar on the way to the run. Just enough to keep my stomach settled. Runs over 4 miles I eat the whole Mojo about 45-60 mins before the run. Runs over 8 miles, I actually get up, eat a pnut butter toast sandwich, then go back to bed for another little bit then 1/2 a power bar on the way to the run.
Food - evening runs - I actually split my lunch in half - whatever it may be - eating half at lunch time and the other half around 4pm. I do try to pick something reasonable that's running fuel like a turkey sandwich or a bit of pasta salad and some string cheese. I'll also keep a powerbar or an apple available in case I miscalculate what I need and feel like my blood-sugar is too low before a run.
And of course, I chug water like a woman lost in the desert most of the time.
No no! I don't think the half starts until Saturday. The full KY group starts tonight.
Thanks!

Me too! I'm wracking my brain for some way to identify myself, but coming up empty because I'm sure there will be a million people there with black running pants
Just look for the Yankee hat

Jersey - I know we met in person at the Cookie GTG, but people always look different to me in running clothes. LOL
When it's cold, I usually wear a black fleece hat that has a band of vine/flower stuff embroidered on it in gray. I also usually look like short, round death in the morning.
I'm what we affectionately refer to as a "back of the packer" - slow. So you'll find me with the slower group or the run/walkers.
Hahaha, I was thinking the same thing. Plus I don't know what I'll be wearing because they change the weather reports by the minute these days. I'd tell you to look for the tattoos but I'm thinking it'll be too cold for any of them to be exposed. I'll have blonde hair in a short ponytail and I'm really pale, especially at 7:30 am with no makeup. (Yeah, big help, I know!) I run about a 10-10:30 pace if you're trying to figure out where in the pack I am.
I'll totally look for the hat and say hi to you if I'm not feeling like too big of a dork about it!!
I just wanted to add....I had a great time tonight, even though we did hill repeats on the Purple People Bridge!! The atmosphere is so fun and supportive. It's way different than running by myself all the time. You're gonna have so much fun.
Also, I overheard one of the coaches advising someone to eat appx 200 calories, no dairy, an hour or two before the run. I was hungry so I had one of the powerbars from my stash on the way there and it seemed to work just fine.
YAY!! I'm glad you had a good run! Those hill repeats around the PPB and another route dubbed the "Rookwood Loop" do seem nuts at first, but wow do they make you so much stronger. I remember I had issues getting all the way up the PPB when we first did them and then one day something just clicked and I rocked straight though @8 of them like I was on fire. It felt awesome! (The Rookwood Loop is still hit or miss but more hits than misses now.)
I was feeling pretty good last night too. There are 4-6 ladies that I met through BR and we met for a 4-miler in Hyde Park. With getting over a cold and not having run for @ 2 weeks, I wasn't expecting much but I totally rocked a hill that's kicked my ass a few times and ended up having a really good run.
