Weird Sonicare Issue

We've used a sonicare toothbrush for the past few years and we're always trying to get the best prices for the replacement heads, usually on Ebay. But last month I noticed that Publix is now selling their own version of heads and they only cost $15 for a 2 pack. I was kind of excited about this. But unsurprisingly, the Publix version doesn't seem that great, and H has been complaining about them since we started using them. The weirdest issue with them is that when you insert one into the sonicare and turn it on, the whole thing vibrates WAY more than it ever used to! And it's louder! LOL- I know that's funny. But it's driving us crazy. While using it, I've been partially unscrewing the head from the sonicare and then holding everything together, since this lessens the loudness. It's ridiculous! I guess we'll have to go back to getting the actual Phillips brand replacement heads from Ebay, or where ever we find them for cheap.

I would be surprised if anyone else can relate to my story but figured there was no better place to find out than on this board! :) I tried google-ing the situation too but didn't see anything. Has anyone encountered anything like this?

Re: Weird Sonicare Issue

  • My frustration with our Sonicares is that we have the a-series and the heads cost way more than the ones for the e-series and I don't even think anyone makes generic replacements for them.  Instead of paying $12/head we have to pay at least $20.
  • I get mine at Costco or BJs when they have a coupon in their mailer. I've also gotten them at Kohls surprisingly. Kohls almost always has them on sale and if you have an additional coupon from them you can use that also.

  • I've never tried any generic replacement heads, so I can't comment on that, but I will admit that I probably stretch out buying new ones it out a little longer than I should. I know we don't replace them every 3 months like they suggest.

Since we are discussing Sonicare toothbrushes, I'll share my excitement of getting my own for Christmas this year. H and I have been using them for about 5 years now, but we've only ever had 1 actual handle thing and of course our own heads. So one of us would have to wait to brush their teeth until the other one was done. I know it's only 2 minutes, but sometimes I'd just be so ready to brush my teeth and crawl into bed and 2 minutes would seem very long. Plus if only one of us was going out of town, we couldn't take it with us! So I know it's silly, but I'm so happy to have my own Sonicare toothbrush now.

  • Tasha, I completely understand! We share just one handle with our own heads, and I would love to have my very own sonicare all to myself. H is selfish about using it, like when he's done, he doesn't remove his toothbrush head, he just leaves it in the handle. So when I go to use it, I have to take his head out, and then the handle is always wet because he doesn't dry it off well- ew! So as I unscrew, I usually get gross water on my hand :(

And I hate how they say that you're supposed to replace them every 3 months. They used to say 6 months, but of course "they" shortened the amount of time to get us to buy more!

  • I didn't even know they made generic ones! We did have issues with the crazy vibration on H's handle. We thought we were going to have to buy a new one (they're only 2 years old) but he took it apart, tightened up some things, and now it works fine. It was getting really loud for a while there, lol!

I was wondering if maybe we could tighten some stuff up to get the loud vibration to stop. I'll have to see what I can figure out!
