Since the 1st of the year, I have been working out daily at home. I rejoined SparkPeople, and am doing their 28-Day "Bootcamp" to help kick-start my fitness routine. I've been doing Yoga, Strength Training, and some of the Aerobic activities on Wii Fit. I've been doing one Bootcamp video per day. All of these workouts have been done after I put the kids to bed at night, and in 3 days, I'd already worked out for more than 2 hours, varying the workouts made it easy!
And, just now I streamed a Lo-Impact Dance Aerobic video on Netflix, and did that while wearing Kyle in the Snuggli (so that added 20 pounds to my 15-minute workout!!). I was able to do all but one move. It was too jumpy, and I just couldn't get it without feeling like Kyle was going to fall out of the carrier. Shannon danced with me, too.
I may not be able to run due to my knees, otherwise I'd be attempting the C25K with you ladies, but I am well on my way to a healthier 2011! And, now that I've put it out there for all of you... I feel some additional accountability!
Let's see what other fun workouts I can get in!! ![]()

Running on the Rhode
I hate you very much
I wrecked my knees as a freshman in high school when I ran cross country and indoor track. A visit to the sports medicine doctor revealed the cause of my knee problems. My kneecaps are slightly off center (I guess I'm a bit bow-legged... or at least, that's how my knees line up), so anytime I was running on uneven ground, or a banked track, it killed! It got to the point that my knees would just randomly give out on me while walking. So, I quit running.
But, put me on an even surface, and I can still run! Makes sense why gymnastics and basketball never hurt me. I do have a treadmill, and once the contractors are done working in my basement, I'm hoping to start incorporating some walks and light jogging into my varied fitness routine.
Thank you ladies again. I'm doing this for me, and for my kids... I want them to have a healthy mom that is around for years to come, kicking their butts!
Rebounding... I should see if my mom still has my trampoline jogger... Thanks for the suggestion, Joanna!
As for Sparkpeople, I'm only starting w/ tracking my fitness right now. I'll add in meals/calories once I get into a true routine for exercise!
Well now you know that I just puffy-heart-crap-love this post! I am really glad that you are adopting a healthier lifestyle Alicia!! And don't forget too that you have fios so you can go to the Veria channel and DVR yoga for life and Pilates from the inside out. They are both excellent and I am pretty picky when it comes to workouts! There is also Fit TV I believe. I mean between Netflixx and fios you really have access to anything you need.
Your knee sounds like you have what's called Patella Femoral syndrome. If that is it or it's something similar, then you can actually do exercises to strengthen the muscles around the knee to realign your knee cap. Not that I am trying to turn you into a marathoner, but if you want to be able to just run a bit there are exercises that can help.
Proud of you girl!!
