Okay. So, as we all know, I'm 6 weeks along. Due to our MC in April, we have not told ANYONE in real life. You should all feel very special!
Anyway, we got through the holidays without giving anything away and don't have any plans to see either side of our families within the month of January. February 19th through the 26th we're going to Key West with Brian's brother and SIL. And if everything goes well this time, that week also aligns with the end of the first trimester.
So... we're thinking we need to tell our parents either the first or second weekend of February. But how? I think it should be in person, but I also think I'll be showing at least a little by then, so the cat will be out of the bag the second they see me. Keep in mind, both families have to travel in from out of state. Any creative ideas on how to break the news? Thanks!
Re: looking for fun ideas
or the rest of my post... tell your mom that you need an extra easter basket for next year and you just want to make sure she has enough notice to make it just right
i dont think it has to be in person..... and yes you will most likely be showing! i cant believe the difference this time around.
the bikini idea is cute, but if you want them to know before the siblings then that is out. i will try to think of some fun ways to tell them. GL!!
As long as you're telling your parents BEFORE the world knows, then I think that's fine. I knew news of a pregnancy via FB before the grandparents-to-be knew.
I didn't actually tell my mother (the only biological grandparent that my children have) in person. I called her and told her the news. Same for my sister.
As for creative ideas, I had a couple of thoughts (which I obviously didn't use).
One was to send my mom a package in the mail... I was going to use a box, and fill it with some small helium-filled balloons (pastel colors)... inside would be a card that was a "congratulations" or "grandparent" card.
Picture of ultrasound (I've made copies of U/S pictures and had them printed out at CVS... FYI, 2 U/S pictures fit nicely on one 4x6 and can then be cropped) in a Grandparent Frame... or, a picture of Cassidy holding a sign / wearing a shirt to "spill" the news... Or, empty picture frame with a note where the photo should go that says something like, "This frame is empty now, but that will be corrected sometime in early September, 2011"
Personalized M&Ms -- http://www.mymms.com/ -- my mom is a huge chocolate fan, so I always thought it'd be neat to do a personalized mix and surprise her with that.
Send a Save the Date card w/ your EDD on it
Send the grandmothers each a bouquet of flowers (autumn colors for your September baby), "Looking forward to meeting you in the fall. Love, Baby"
With Macie, I had everyone over for Chinese food and had fortune cookies made that said "there will be a new addition to our family in May 2007" It was really fun watching everyone open them and figurting it out.
With Nathan, I had an I am going to be a big sister shirt made for Macie to wear.
