DH's car finally got to the point where it is going to cost more to get it fixed than it is worth so we need to buy a new (to us, not new new) car. We are not picky about looks or makes, it basically has to do three things:
1. Get us from Point A to Point B safely
2. Not guzzle gas
3. Fit a rear-facing infant car seat without requiring the front passenger seat to be moved too far up.
Any suggestions?
Re: Car Shopping
I suggest some sort of subaru. They are some of the safest vehicles on the road and they have decent gas mileage considering they have all wheel drive. The forrester might have more room for the car seat (although I've never owned that model).
Good luck car shopping!
Ditto the Subaru! I have an Outback wagon (06) and love it so much. I'd highly recommend VanBortel in Victor. Worth the drive, no hassle pricing, and they have a great selection of used Subarus.
We have 2 subarus too. They are great cars but honestly they are NOT the best for RF carseats.. We have them in the middle in both our cars (which is not recommended by the manufacturer for some reason, but we have them both in really tight) and in my forester the carseat is pushed up against both front seats.. and my driver seat is probably an inch or two more forward than i would drive with it normally. In my DHs car (Legacy wagon) there seems to be a little more space but i think that has more to do with the carseat he has in his car than the room in the backseat. The problem with his car though is he has trouble seeing out the back of the car over the carseat..
I really think the only cars that really fit RF carseats well are bigger SUVs and full size sedans (like a camry or something)

I'm with HD. I have a 2011 crv (4 cylinder) and I'm taller, and we can put the car seat behind either side with out having to move the seats forward. I love it.
