What program do you use for your post processing?
We hope to purchase a Mac in the next month or so and I keep debating what I want. Should I get CS5? Lightroom 3? Both?

Re: Linds & any other photo gals
I have never used Lightroom, but I LOVE CS5! I use it all of the time for work and when I need to edit some of my photos. If you use your camera on RAW settings, CS5 is great because you can very easily edit the photos.
Have you used a Mac before with Photoshop or Adobe? It might take a little getting used to if you haven't (different commands/shortcuts), but I am a Mac FOR SURE and totally recommend CS5 for use on a Mac. Also, I use CS5 a lot because of the InDesign and Illistrator. I do a lot of PDFs/Forms/Marketing Materials. That being said, remember I have never used Lightroom - although when I googled it, it looks pretty fantastic for photography use.
I want to learn to edit photos like this.
Yay! Once you go Mac, you never go back!
I have both PS CS4 (actually upgrading to 5 tomorrow) and LR3. While I love both, I try to edit as little as possible and am trying to only stick with little things like boost contrast or adjusting exposure. I'm finding that LR gives me a much, much easier work flow so I primarily stay there, but will open up PS for the things that need the big guns, lol.
I'd definitely start with lightroom (or even aperture) - I believe that both offer free trials on their websites. And then just decide if you need photoshop after using those. Also, gimp.org is a free, open source alternative to PS.

I LOVE TREY! He's so amazing. I geeked OUT when he commented on one of my photos in my flickr album. We've since chatted more and are friends. I absolutely DROOL over his photos. HDR is amazing. He has an entire tutorial on how he does it

DUDE!!!!! I want his equipment in a bad way! His images are so freaking sharp.
I haven't used a Mac and I'm a little frightened to make the switch. I know that it's going to be a lot to get used to.
I think I'm leaning towards getting both programs. I've heard that a lot of people like LR for the workflow and CS5 for the editing abilities.
Now, how do I get a discount on CS5? Because that price hurts the checkbook a little bit.

Nope, LR is more advanced than bridge. And, they just released LR 3 a month or so ago and it blows the doors off of LR2. It's amazing. They're offering a free trial, too.

As far as CS3 PS to CS5, a lot of it's still the same. There are some minor UI improvements like snap-to grids (in CS4) and such, but nothing that would make me go and fork out the money just for it (haha, I say as I'm upgrading to CS5 - but it was paid for by a client)

Good to know. Sounds like when I do finally get my DSLR I'll go for LR before I upgrade PS. Heck my dad is still using CS2 and it does what I need it to do the times I've used it.

Hi, it's Brittany (formerly Brittany&Dusty)
LR3 is amazing as far as workflow goes. I adjust my white balance, exposure, and other basic edits, and once I am finish I export to CS4. Thats where I do my sharpening and eye enhancing, and add my watermark. When I got LR3 it definitely reduced my workflow ALOT!
