Please Say I'm Nuts

Or don't say I'm nuts. I would like to not be totally crazy. MH and I have been TTC since August. His cousin just had a baby, and another is due in March. His sister is due in April and my down stairs neighbor, who is also a friend, just had a abay 4 days ago. I have huge rabies right now. I was shopping for my sister-in-law on Babies R Us and I saw so much cute stuff that I will need when I get pregnant. How crazy is it to make a registry right now? Just so I can keep track of things I like/need and then when we do get pregnant it is right there and I can just tweak as needed.

I know, I know. It is early because I may not get pregnant anytime soon. But if you knew me for my wedding, I planned it 3 years in advance. I had books, and magazines. I bought too much stuff that needed to be returned because I kept thinking "just in case". Thanks for letting me be me, psycho and all. :)

Re: Please Say I'm Nuts

  • As long as you don't go out and buy everything, I don't see any harm in creating a registry.

  • Oh no. No buying intended. Just a "wish list".
  • I'm like you in that I like to plan waaaaay ahead for things. I'm not even going to start TTC until April (at the earliest), yet have been looking at nursery decor online for the past 6 months or so. So if starting a registry is nuts given that you are actively TTC then I guess I'm completely insane. :P
  • No buying, just wishing! :)  I would say that's fine, but they expire so I would do a wish list on amazon and use the universal wish list button to add things to it.

We have been TTC since September...and I already have a wish list at Target. :) Most of the stuff probably won't be available by the time we are, but at least it gives me an idea of want I want/need.

Glad I'm not the only one. :)

  • The only reason I'd say "don't do it" is that they are CONSTANTLY coming out with new models of baby things and ingenious new gadgets.  Really, I feel like the day after my shower for Owen there were suddenly new things in the store, in some cases better.  If I were you, I'd content yourself with a research project.  Maybe make an Excel file with a list of generic categories of things that you might need, with some links to examples of types that you like -- kind of like ripping pages out of a bridal magazine!  That way you don't run the risk of someone stalking it and buying you stuff too soon.

(This happened to my cousins...they've been on the adoption list for about a year, but she registered about three years ago.  So much to change!)

  • I think it'd be annoying to register now because like MM said things change pretty quickly.  I'd find that something I wanted was no longer being made or was sold out, or that something new and better would come out.   I felt like I was always having to revise my registry to have it be current with what was in stock, so I'd want to wait until I was further into a pregnancy.

  • We registered for our wedding way too early in an effort to appease my BFF.  We fell in love with the patterns and colors we picked out for our kitchen - which were all sold out well before any shower invites went out.

My concern would be the idea of putting the cart before the horse...  how much more painful would it be if TTC doesn't work out, but you've formed a wish list or registry?

I say, relax, do some research if you want, but I'd worry that doing much more would add stress to TTC - which is counterproductive.
