sometimes I love my job

For anyone who doesn't know, I'm a bartender at a restaurant in Tampa.  It's usually cool, sometimes there's a bad day, sometimes it's super fun.  Today there was a cute couple who came in and had a glass of wine and a few happy hour appetizers and they were just 2 cool people.  Our badass wealthy regular was next to them and he accidentally spilled a tiny bit of his sangria.  He felt so bad, even though it didn't even get near the couple.   Well he still felt bad and he said he wanted to pay for their check ($30).  Then they all started talking.  When he found out they are both in training to be air traffic controllers and they recently were engaged he told me he would like to buy them a bottle of champagne, our best.  He bought them an $85 bottle of champagne. Totally made their day. And he tipped $100.  Wheeee!! If I was rich I would do stuff like that.  Random acts of kindness.

  • That is soo sweet! Quite the contrast to your night of the gang member thief...

  • This is true. The other night we had a butter knife yeilding theif who didn't think he had to pay his tab which was under 40.  Now his bail is set at over 15,000.  What a dumb ass.  It's a really good story where good guys win,  but it makes me a little paranoid to put too much of it on the interwebz...

  • Aww!  I love stories of random acts of kindness.  I wish I had the $ to do stuff like that but I do try to do little random things to make people smile when I can.  Hugs are free!
  • That is so sweet!  You have to love days like that.
