For my birthday I have asked for a day away. DH told me he wants to get it for my for my birthday... but is clueless so I am trying to do some research. I am thinking I want a hair-cut, pedicure, and massage. Maybe a facial. DH said he would like to spend $100... YEA right. So I am trying to find the best price.
Any recs for price or just a great experience in southern metro?
Beauty schools? I was to one years ago, but do you get to relax or is it more stressful because it's a student?
Re: Where to go a spa day?
I've been to this Salon in Mankato. I don't know how far you're willing to drive. I only received a pedicure there but it was the longest a pedicure has ever lasted for me. The salon is beautiful and the people were very friendly. I think your DH will have to cough up a bit more than $100
but there are packages mid $100s and even upper $100s.
Here's a salon in New Prague. I've never been there, but they have a "Time for Me" package. It includes a one hour hot stone massage, a manicure and a spa pedicure. It's only $128. That may be exactly what you're looking for!
Spalon Montage in Edina is expensive but totally worth it. Their spa area is the most soothing, peaceful place and the service is wonderful.
Their spa packages are listed here: http://www.spalon.com/content.cfm?fuseaction=dsp_giftcards. The "Express Retreat" looks similar to what you're looking for in a spa day and, for $148, that's a great deal for all those services.

I went to the one in Plymouth and didn't have the best experience. I actually still have a gift card with $100+ that I've been putting off using because I don't have a real desire to go back.
I think one of the best spas in the area is at the Hotel Ivy downtown. It's definitely one of the pricier options but it has the real spa feel to it and they have some fantastic treatments.
I would forgo the haircut and just do a massage and facial at the Ivy to save some $$$.

This!
I've been to both Simonson's in Maple Grove and Spalon Montage in Edina and Woodbury. Spalon Montage is by far the best. I was not at all impressed with the atmosphere at Simonson's or my massage or pedicure. And it was for my wedding, so I was really bummed that it wasn't better. You can never go wrong at Spalon Montage. The atmosphere is so soothing, and the treatments are spectacular. Worth every penny.
I will also recommend Riverstone Salon and Spa. It's a little place in South Minneapolis, but really nice. www.riverstonesalonspa.com
I have a gift card to Accolades Spa in St. Paul from DH for my birthday, but they only do massages on Saturday, so I have yet to schedule it.
Enjoy your day!
