Just posted this update on the adoption board

We did it.

We took the first step last night and e-mailed our agency to ask if they would share the file of the little boy from M's orphanage that we've been thinking we might like to adopt.

I haven't heard back yet, but I'm sure the program coordinator's swamped because she just returned from the holidays today.  We aren't entirely sure the agency has the file (but I'm pretty sure they do, or at least an older version of it), and we don't know if they'll share it with us, since we aren't active prospective adoptive clients, but we explained that we met him, know his special relationship with M, and would like further information on his medical condition (he has a genetic disorder which can be quite mild or quite severe) to help us decide if we feel able to pursue his adoption.

We also explained that we are thinking of adopting from Peru again either way, and that this would just be a way of helping us figure out if we feel able to parent the boy, and what the timing of our next steps should be.  I included a bunch of questions about the process the second time-around and what, if anything, can be streamlined, and now we're just waiting to hear.

Soon, we're going to start talking to M about his feelings about us growing our family, and we'll go from there.  In the meantime, I'm kind of in knots, hoping the agency shares the file with us and that we can add this little boy to our family.  He and M were close at the orphanage, and M treated him like a little brother.  It just all feels right to us, and we're praying it will work out.

As for us and M, things have been going unbelievably well.  It's like we turned a corner and are growing stronger every day.  M hasn't had a single melt-down for a month, even despite all the traveling and being majorly off-schedule during the holidays.  We spent Christmas with my family in upstate NY, then drove to AL to spend the following week with my husband's family, and he was totally well-behaved and awesome.  It was M's first time meeting most of my husband's family, and he just absolutely charmed the pants off them.  We even left him for the first time so we could go out one night with friends, and he was a dream.  I'm sure we'll hit more bumps in the road, but life is pretty sweet in Casa Serious right now.
