How much should I charge?
A co-worker asked if I would tutor her daughter in Math. I'm starting this week and she just told me to let her know how much I will be charging. How much would be reasonable? Here's some info, in case the rate depends on any of these factors: she's in 8th grade advanced math so I think it will be Algebra I, I don't have a degree or anything yet, I'm currently a junior at OU pursuing my Mathematics Education degree, and I really don't have any experience tutoring yet. Any ideas how much I should charge? ETA: Oh, and I'll be driving up to the North side to meet her (I live in Moore)

my bookshelf!
Bloggy
I would expect to pay at least $25/hr for that. I think you should ask for $30/hr.
Why:
1. You'll have to pay your own taxes on that money (well, you're supposed to anyway
.) Go ahead and set aside a third of what you earn for that.
2. The travel time. I'd not charge her milage because, since you're an independent contractor, you may be able to write the milage off on your taxes as a business expense (if you claim that income--I'm a chicken when it comes to the IRS, so I would.)
