reusable produce bags?

Does anyone have recs for some inexpensive produce bags? We already use reusable shopping  bags, but for whatever reason DH always ends up putting the produce in the thin plastic bags and it drives me crazy. i would like something thin that we can keep in the fridge (we currently keep our plastic produce-filled bags in the fridge so just looking for a replacement)

TIA

Re: reusable produce bags?

  • go to your local dollar store. I found green mesh bags for four for $1 that work perfectly for produce.

  • We got ours as a wedding gift from C&B.  I like them so far.  They're large enough to fit multiple large items, and still light enough to not add to the weight.

I know there are a few sellers on Etsy, too.  I'm sure someone else around here probably has a specific rec to an Etsy seller.  I think I've seen them posted before.

  • I got cotton ones on amazon. The checkers always give me a funny look when they pass through. One woman actually took my carrots out of the bag and was going to throw it away!!!

I second her produce bags! I got a complete set and I take them with me everywhere. I get lots of comments on them too, they're so cute.

That's the dumbest thing ever -- why would they even think to do that?!

  • How about reusable bags for bulk dry goods?  Like flour, pasta, rice, spices, etc.

    Confused

This reminds me of the time a bagger wanted to put a paper bag inside the reusable one I brought.

I have to tell them to stuff my reusable bags. They only fill them half way up. And they put my 7th gen cleaners in plastic bags then into my reusable bags.

I took the pastic bag out and told them to keep it.... the bagger threw it away. I guess because it had been "used". ::Palm meet face::

I have these from Peddler's Wagon in small and large.  They're tight-knit cotton, so I use the small for bulk items like lentils or rice and the large for veggies.image

If you're tired of bringing home the thin plastic veggie bags, these are for you. These produce bags are made of a natural, lightweight cotton sheeting (not bleached or treated with anything) that barely weighs on the produce scale. Drawstring closure. Made in India; Fair Wage / Fair Labor. Two sizes.

Size Small: 8.5" wide x 11" high. The small size is best for grains, nuts, etc.

Size Large: 13" wide x 17" high. The large size is best for large items like collards, kale, broccoli, etc. You can use a twist tie to make the bag smaller.  Best tip for keeping items fresh: keep veggies in the produce bag and put THAT in a plastic bag in the fridge.

Our baggers keep looking for a barcode to scan on my bags.  I'm like, "I'm using them, not buying them!"  Good grief Confused

I use the self checkout because of all these things! I always had, then I read this article about how it was taking jobs away from people, etc. So I went back to the regular checkout. After the 5th or 6th time a different person each time couldn't manage to figure out to put the COLD products in the INSULATED bag, I gave up, and returned to my self checkout. Plus ours always act annoyed when you bring bags, I'm like HELLO, you don't have to screw with plastic, you should be thanking me! =]

LOVE her stuff, never even looked at the Etsy site before, TY for posting this link! Big Smile

  • I have a set of the flip and tumble produce bags from amazon.  I actually always get compliments from the checkout people. I think they're 5 for $10, and they're a very generous size.  Only downside is I think they are MIC. There are a lot of great sellers on etsy as well.
