Which do you think is accurate?
We rent and our oven is brand new (it's black and stainless steel Fridgedaire (sp) and I'm thinking it may be lower end/grade b/c from places we've seen with upgraded kitcens it seems to be a common set for dishwasher, fridge, and oven).
Anyhow, there is a digital control to set the oven temp and I also have a dial thermometer (from BBB) in the oven...but the dial thermometer always reads less than the digital.
When I set the digital to 350F, the dial says only 300, etc.
Which temp would you trust?
Re: Which do you think is accurate?
I wouldn't trust either. Get an oven thermometer (about 10 bucks) to set inside your oven. Only then can you be 100% sure what the true temperature is.
ETA: I just realized that I read your post wrong. I'm assuming now that the dial thermometer you are referring to is an oven thermometer. Yes? If so, trust that one. It is very common for oven gauges to be off.
I've always found most ovens to be at least a little off, that being said, if you're testing with a digital thermometer I'd go with what it reads. If you really want/need to be sure for baking purposes, get another therm. and check again.
I have microwave/convection oven combo that's digital, and I have to adjust all cook times, some take longer, some take less, etc.
Yep, you're right. Thanks! It's just I have to set the oven digital temp soo high to get the dial/oven therm. to read the temp I need...like set at 480F for the dial to read 400F. It's insane!

I just posted and it didn't work...so if there's two now I apologize. grr!
we use an oven thermometer, our stove was off too. now when we go with what the oven thermometer says it's straight on.
This is why I got one too. I'd cook rolls at 375F and the instructions say 8-10 minutes, but I'd need to have them in there 13 minutes to have them be edible!
