Corn seeds

This is probably a really stupid question, but here goes anyways:

Are the corn seeds we buy in the US (for home gardening) genetically modified?

Re: Corn seeds

  • From what I understand, organic corn seeds are not genetically modified.  I don't know about non-organic seeds.

  • Organic seeds cannot be genetically modified.  Of course, there is no way to assure that the parent plants the seeds came from were never exposed to GM pollen, so there isn't a way for gardeners to be completely sure.  Non-organic (conventional) seeds may be GM, but may also be non-GM -- check with the company.

This is my understanding also.  If you want to be sure not to get GM seeds, buy organic.
