Favorite bachelorette party/wedding shower ideas?
I know this was discussed before, but can't find it on the board. Currently planning both for a pal, and was wondering what the favorite part of each of yours were? If someone knows exactly where this was posted before, let me know and I'll delete this one/steal from that one and sorry for the repost! :-)
Re: Favorite bachelorette party/wedding shower ideas?
I'm too lazy right now to find it.
My bachelorette party was a let down. But, at my shower, my MOH had several postcard designs printed up. She left a bunch on each table and guests were instructed to write a piece of relationship/marriage advice on a card. She collected them all and has been sending me one every 2-3 weeks since the wedding. They're a wonderful surprise and reminder.
I don't know how much help I'll be since my bach. party was pretty much a failure being planned and things to do.
The one thing I did like about my bach party weekend was that it was also a mini lingerie shower too and helped everyone not have to drive a million miles since everyone was so spread out.
As for the shower, I just had one big shower that EVERYONE came to so you could do that (but you'd probably want someone to help co-host). I have a friend getting married in May and am hosting a shower with her sister and we're doing recipe cards. We're going to mail them with the invites and (hopefully) have everyone bring them back with their favorite recipes but we'll also have some blank ones there. I'm going to try to make a cute recipe book/box to go with it for her kitchen.
Sorry this was so long but HTH! GL!
Edit: I forgot about this at my shower. A girl I grew up with wrote down everything I said when I opened my gifts and then read it at the end. I'll try to find it and copy some of it when I get home tonight. Needless to say, it was hilarious and I was crying from laughing so much.
eMilee - that's an awesome idea! I love that. My MOH had everyone fill out marriage advice and I got them all at the end of the shower. I think it would be fun to get one sent in the mail, though, because who ever gets real mail anymore?
My MOH had a funny game like the Newlywed game where she called K and got his answers to a bunch of questions and then had me answer them. Finding out the differences between our answers was pretty hilarious for some of them.
For the bach party, I was kicking and screaming against a strip club, but honestly that was the most fun of my party. Flame if you must, but I had a good ol' time gettin' liquored up and watching gorgeous men dance. (FYI - thankfully my MOH did not make me wear bachelorette gear, so I was free from the obligatory bachelorette lap dance/harassing/c0cck in the face.)
My MOH did this one too, it was hilarious! We also did a "How well do you know the bride?" game where everyone that participated had to answer 10 random questions about me and the winner got a prize. Funny enough my mom came in last place, but when we went home and asked my dad he got them all right, even the "when she was little, what did she want to be when she grew up?" (I wanted to research humpback whales off of Hawaii)
When I did my MOH's bridal shower I designed a recipe card that we sent out with each invitation and had all of the guests include one of their favorite family recipes for MOH to have to start her own recipe box.
We did this at my shower too, but for every wrong answer, I had to eat a piece of Dubble Bubble gum. The wad in my mouth by the time I was done was huge! Didn't help that MOH asked super hard questions, but it was fun nonetheless.
We went to Vegas for my bparty and didn't really play any "games" out there, so I can't really think of anything from mine. I did go to a bpary last year, where there was a scavenger hunt. It was cute, but some of the things on the list, I personally would never do, so I guess it depends on your pal.
Does her guy already have a plan for his party? DH and I had a combined party. We took a party trolley into town with 40 of our friends and had a room rented at a local bowling alley with food/drinks. It was so much fun, and everyone who came said it was the best b-party they'd ever been to. I know it wouldn't work for everyone, but if they're up for it, it was an awesome time:
My favorite part of my shower was that it was non-traditional and more like a big party. It was at my house, everyone mingled, no games or gift opening (80 people were there scattered all over). It was a really good time and people stayed way after it was supposed to be over.
Afterwards we all hung out in my backyard and got drunk and silly. One of my BMs made CDs for everyone - she asked all the girls in my wedding party songs that reminded them of me, and made a double CD. That was awesome.
