talk to me about Texas

I know we have some Nesties & Bumpies that live in Texas, or have lived in Texas so share some info with me please :)

DH & I are thinking about vacationing in the Lone Star State for our 2nd Anniversary. Yes, I realize our 1st Ann. hasn't officially come yet (a few more days!) but I'm bored to death right now and need some distractions.

Unfortunately I'm of no help as far as direction right now, because Texas is HUGE and I have no idea where we would want to visit, seeing as there are so many awesome things to see in Texas. If it helps at all we consider ourselves "foodies" and we're both really into History / historical sites. We go on vacation and spend more then half of it in museums. :) We usually love to pack a vacation full of activities and see as much as possible, but we also realize that because Texas is so big we will probably have to stay in one area.

Our anniversary is in January, but we're open to delaying the trip if that means we'll have better weather.

TIA ladies :)

  • I don't live in TX, but I freaking LOVE San Antonio. There are ridiculously good restaurants there, you've got the Alamo for the History buffs, so much is within walking distance of the riverwalk (The Riverwalk! Love it)...good place :)

This!  I can't speak highly enough of the Riverwalk!  I'm into history stuff and really like the Alamo too.  I went when I was a senior in high school and have always wanted to go back once I got to drinking age.  :)

Also, DH and I took our first vacation together to Austin, which was a very cool town.  Their downtown was just miles and miles of bars/restaurants with live music everywhere.  I was never once bored during the 5 days we were there.

  • I'm a Texan and from what you said my first thought was San Antonio - food and history and then Austin- for food and music and general coolness. Then around there you have the Hill Country- pretty, wineries, fun shopping.

You could also do Corpus Christi (the beach) or South Padre but who knows what the gang/Mexico situation will be then.

I've also heard the Big Bend area is amazing. Many people love Dallas and Houston.

     Hope this helps some!

This!!  You should also check out the Mission Tours there are many other missions around that part of Texas and they are so neat!  Also the hill country in South East Texas is beautiful in the spring when all the wild flowers are in bloom.

New bio with helpful info for DW knotties!

  • I've been to Houston, Galveston and Dallas.  I wasn't really a huge fan of any of these places.  DH is from Dallas and has promised me a trip to Lockhart for some bbq!  He also loves San Antonio and Austin.  His mother used to take him to SA every summer for vacation.
  • Between here (TN) & TB everyone is in agreement we should focus on SA & Austin, that's where we're focusing on as well. :) Thanks for all the suggestions! I have lots to research, look in to, and get excited about!
  • I'm way late here... I totally think San Antonio would be the best place! They just finished a bunch of renovations on the riverwalk... And the Alamo is awesome!! DH and I were actually thinking of going soon - I have a bunch of family there and it's not too bad of a drive from Lubbock... Let me know if you DO go to San Antonio!!
