Any good movies lately??

Just wondering if you gals have been to the movies lately and what you would recommend.  It seems like there are a LOT of good movies out there!  Thanks!!

  • If you're into slightly creepy, psychological thrillers, Black Swan is AWESOME. I LOVED that movie.

  • I saw Little Fockers on Xmas Day.  It wasn't very good.

Queen:  I really want to see Black Swan!  However, DH does not, so I will either have to find someone to go with me or wait until it comes out on Netflix.

  • J had actually mentioned going to see Black Swan which is gnarly considering I secretly wanted to see it too but didn't think he'd go. I heard good things about it.

We saw 127 Hours a few weeks ago (I don't think it's in theatres anymore) and it was very good. Staring at James Fracno helps too ;)

  • we saw 127 hours.  friday we are going to see true grit.  next week i want to go see black swan.

EDIT: this is not in theaters, but totally worth renting if you haven't seen it: Away We Go.  It is so good.  You will all love it.

  • I really want to see Black swan, but i KNOW DH won't go.  I could probably get him to go to True Grit or 127 hours.  True Grit looks good, but I haven't heard anyone say anything about it yet.

  • Yeah, I think True Grit is on my "next to see" list. I doubt I'll actually go since H and I have been to the movies like 4 times In December.

We saw Love and Other Drugs (do not recommend btw), Chronicles of Narnia: Voyager of the Dawntreader (only recommend if you <3 Narnia), Black Swan and Burlesque (only recommend if you <3 Moulin Rouge, Nine!, etc).

We're not usually movie go-ers. (Other than HP and Eclipse, I don't think I went to any other movies last year, but I could be forgetting) so that was highly unusual. But I LOVE a good western and so does H. So maybe we will go. And I have a free movie ticket. Hmm . . .

  • also i want to see the fighter.

and more importantly than any of these movies, i cannot WAIT to see the spring epic: cowboys versus aliens.  if you have not seen the previews, google that sh*t immediately.

ger and i used to go to the movies every sunday in CA for 2 years.  i loved it :)

I am kind of torn on Cowboys and Aliens. Daniel Craig? Yes. Olivia Wilde? Oh, yes. Harrison Ford? Fcuk yeah! Western? My heart just about stopped. But aliens? I couldn't sleep for a week after seeing Signs and that was a pretty tame movie (I also carried a water bottle around everywhere for like a month). I don't know what to do!!!!!

  • We're so lame.  I think the last movie we saw in the theater was Blades of Glory.  I'm dying to see Black Swan, too, though.  K wants to see True Grit, but I don't even know what it is...

I really want to see this!

I'm not much help since I barely go to the regular theater and usually hit up the $1.99 theater during the inbetween times. We just saw "Life As We Know It" last week. It was okay...cute but kinda drawn out.

We did get a movie theater GC for christmas so might have to see what's playing for a date night...

I'm also dying to see Black Swan.  I haven't asked Richard yet, but if I have to sit through his horror movies he'll have to sit through mine.

girl, watch the previews online!  it is based off the original true grit from the 70s (i think?) with john wayne.   it is going to be soooo good.  cohen brothers classic meets matt damon and jeff bridges?  yes please.

  • To everyone whose husbands won't go to see Black Swan, there is one thing that might get them to go with you. Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis have a love scene. Unfortunately, my DH doesn't even care what it's about, but he definitely wants to go see it.

Actually, this is what made H interested in it, too. He saw it in the preview and was like "hmm, maybe I should go see that."

My disdain for Mila Kunis, combined with men's excitement for this love scene, is why I don't want to see that movie.

GASP!  How could you not like Jackie Burkhart or Meg Griffin?? :-P

I've heard from several women, too, that this scene is pretty hot.  Not one of the reasons I want to see it, but... ;-)

  • One of my gay (male) friends told me that the scene was pretty hot.  Which sort of disturbs me.

  • Black Swan was sooo good. I loved it. I actually really like Mila. I don't like Natalie so much but after seeing this movie I'm starting to like her now. I saw it with DH and he really liked it. He actually wanted to go see it too so I was lucky. Of course he had be a dork and say that he wished he was still in school so he could write a paper on this movie. (he was an english lit major).
