I never made any resolutions until about 3 years ago. Since then, I'm only at a 50% or so success rate. Some things that I've put on my list for the last 3 years that haven't gotten accomplished are: learning Italian (I bought Dh Rosetta Stone one year and we started--but didn't get very far), corresponding more with friends, and the always present losing weight/not gaining clothing sizes. On the more successful side of things: I ran a marathon, then a 1/2 marathon the last two years. I've managed to organize my recipes a little better so that I can use them more often. Last year we finally made a budget and (mostly) stuck to it--I've also increased my retirement contributions. We're also getting started on another DIY home improvement--painting/re-vitalizing our dining room.
I'm looking for some new ones, though. What are some of yours??
Re: Anyone doing New Years Resolutions or Goals for 2011?
This year my goals are pretty simple. Become a CPA, become healthier (including losing weight), and develop a better vision of our future (budget, general plan, etc.).
I have deemed 2011 the year of no fun. I begin personal training sessions this week and CPA classes next week, which require 30 hours a week of studying. This basically means I will have zero free time until July at the earliest. But hopefully it will all be worth it!
EA--well, I'm glad you made a decision to go with the personal trainer! I think that will be a good thing for you. And hopefully, if he/she is a good/great trainer, then you'll have fun while working out. Even if it's just laughing at yourself and/or your inability to do a particular exercise, you should have SOME fun while doing it. I know I always do (and last night it was over my inability to move my body the way the instructor wanted me to.)
Now, as far as the CPA is concerned....yeah.....that doesn't sound fun. But in the end, it will be worth it, and will help your other goal of clarifying your future goals. Plus, since you do it for a living--hopefully you'll find some parts of the studying process a good learning experience and maybe you'll learn something new! That's always good--and it will make all the studying worth it.
I do tend to do better with smaller goals though. For instance, one of the other goals I achieved last year was to watch at least 10 more of the AFI top 100 movies (different from the ones I had already seen). I totally smashed that for the year, and had a REALLY good time doing it. Then again, I also chose the movies that fit the genres I like the most. (for the record, some of the movies that I loved, and highly recommend to others are All about Eve, Bringing Up Baby, It Happend one Night, and Double Indemnity. I also really enjoyed From Here to Eternity which is based around the attack on Pearl Harbor, so I think some people might see it as a "war movie" but its really not.)
Hallelujah!! I'm clean but messy. Dh is organized but slobby. It's NOT a good combination!
Any fun trips planned for 2011? Or did Hawaii take up the budget for both 2010 and 2011? This year, I'm trying to get together with my sorority sisters in Indiana--many of whom I haven't seen in the 10 years since we graduated! I need a good girls weekend!
I didn't make any resolutions myself, but DH made one for me - he says I need to swear less. Apparently I swear more than I am aware of.
This year DH and I probably won't be doing any vacations, but he also wants to work on his new toy (the car), and I need to save up for my sister's Bridal shower/Bachelorette party/wedding. We might make the Bachelorette party be in Florida, so that might be a nice Vacation!
From this point on, I will think of you as KataMarie--the girl that curses like a sailor.
My goal for 2011 is to have a baby
On top of that (cuz it's not big enough
I'm doing the KLove challenge and only listening to Christian music for the rest of January. Obviously I can't always control what I listen to, but at least when I'm in control that is my goal.
lol, thanks derky. I guess it fits, especially during my daily hour commute to work.
Jenna - DH has gotten into only listening to KLOVE. I don't mind Christian music, but he annoys me with it. EVERY time he gets into my car he changes my radio to KLOVE. I'm sorry, it's MY car, and last I checked driver get to choose the station! I grew up in NE Ohio, so I prefer rock, especially classic rock. That's the majority of our radio stations up there. Maybe that's why I swear so much.. lol I need a little less Trent Reznor.
