Infant feeding

Hi,

I just started rice cereal once a day and she has been doing well on it for about a week.  The past couple of days I've increased the amount slightly and she's been taking most of it.  I'm a litle lost as to what to do next.  My questions are...how long do I keep going with the cereal before introducing a vegetable.  Once I introduce a vegetable do I then do one cereal feeding and one veg feeding, or when should I introduce solids twice a day?

Re: Infant feeding

  • I think introducing a veggie now would be a good idea.  It's up to you how often you want to feed the solids, but twice a day would probably be good.  With DS, I would often mix his morning cereal with a fruit puree, and sometimes would do that with his lunch veggie (mix with cereal) as well.
  • this is a great site even if you don't make your own baby food.  the link takes you right to the charts on what to introduce what.  it was a lifesaver for me!
  • When we first started, we did 1x per day, with the cereal for 2 weeks.  After the 2 weeks I introduced a puree along with the cereal at the same feeding.  At our 6 month pedi visit, we were told to increase his feedings to 3x per day, so at that point he got cereal&fruit in the morning, a veggie puree at lunch and cereal and another veggie for dinner.  Just make sure you stick to the same veggie or fruit for 3 days in a row to see if there is any allergy before introducing another new one.  You could also try switching to an Oatmeal cereal to mix things up a bit.  It tastes better and is less binding than the rice one.
