What's with using '&' instead of 'and'? I've noticed this in several blogs I read...is it a blog trend? Anyone else notice it?

I think it's one of those things people started doing because no one knows the English language anymore. No, but seriously, I think it is a blog trend and kind of a hip, modern thing to do. Some might think it looks cool?

It's way harder for me to type "&" then it is to type "and". My brain is trained for "and"!

At first I thought it was okay and now it's really starting to bother me. I just found myself looking through the whole post just checking to see if the person 'slipped' up and wrote 'and' anywhere!

Really? I wouldn't call it a trend at all - I've used "&" in type as well as written casual correspondence for as long as I can remember. I will, however, be consistent and make sure that I either use all "&" or "and" on any one project - I hate when they're interchanged.

I know I use '&' when I feel like my posts are too long and I want to find a way to shorten them up. LOL

Otherwise I don't know why other people would, but I guess it really doesn't bother me either way.

Hmm, maybe the people I'm thinking of just use it a lot and it really stands out to me. I've actually NEVER noticed Linday use it - lol. So maybe I'm just sensitive to the the person I notice it with a lot. I agree, consistency is key - hence why I was looking through that person's whole post. MrsNAH=nutso.

Lindsay - you use it in written correspondence!?! I can have to really concentrate to make that symbol in writing. LOL.

Yep. But now that I'm thinking about it, my mom & sister both to as well. Also, just realized that my grandmother does, too. So, perhaps, that's where I get it from and maybe why I didn't realize that it wasn't as common as I thought?

Buuuuuuut.... look at that last paragraph. I just used "&" and "and" (and right there, too... omg, I can't stop!!) Can I blame sleep deprivation? I haven't slept since Tuesday.

I always write out "and" but when I am writing I type "&". (BTW, that just took me a while minute to even find the "&" key)

Does anybody read the blog Heir to Blair? She's the one I can think of who does the " & " thing, it just looks so unnatural and really bugs the crap out of me.
