  • Have you seen the placenta teddy bear? Yum!

While I think it's disgusting, I have heard that consuming it helps with PPD and milk supply...

    I donated mine...

I think I'll take my chances.  Worse case I'll depend on formula and/or modern medicine.  And this is coming from someone who is trying for a natural childbirth.

I would donate mine, but my hospital doesn't do placenta or cord bank donations (unless you are paying to privately have this done).

It was really kind of weird. This lady came in and asks me if I was keeping my placenta. I looked at her like she was crazy; we laughed and shared a couple of stories about planting it, making a stew, the teddy bear, ect.... After I delivered in she came with a biohazard cooler, put my placenta on ice and off they went. It was kind of bizarre.

  • So when you donate it, where does it go?  Who uses it?!?  This subject is very foreign to me and honestly, kinda grosses me out, so I didn't even click on the link.

  • I like to think I'm very open minded and into the natural benefits of things, but I cannot wrap my head around eating my own placenta. Encapsulating it is the best option IMO, but I still don't think I could ever do it. I definitely could never cook it up for dinner.... have you seen any of these recipes people make with it... with pictures. Gross!

  • I wonder if you have to keep the pills refrigerated.

  • i definitely won't be ingesting my placenta in any form, but thanks blair. i'll have to look into the donation thing.
  • I don't think I was given any options. They asked if I wanted to see it, which I did. Not going to lie, turned me off of pot roast for a couple weeks.

  • They didn't ask if I wanted to keep it - they asked if I wanted to donate it for research (because of my preeclampsia), which I did.

I could see doing this, but I'm an organ donor.
