Anyone else have a husband addicted to Golf?

My DH is 95% focused on golf all year long. I'm happy he has a hobby but sometimes it get's pretty lonely.

Anyone else in this boat?

Hoping to find some ladies to hang out with this summer!

 Happy Wednesday!

Andrea

Re: Anyone else have a husband addicted to Golf?

  • Mine golfs although I wouldn't say he's addicted to it. He barely did it much last summer, but I think he would appreciate some new golf buddies. :)

I have clubs, took lessons and I've been out with him a few times, but I get seriously frustrated because I'm awful. If there are any ladies out there who would like to drive a cart around, drink some beer and play some laughable golf with me this summer (maybe while the husbands play a serious game), I'd be all for it!

  • My husband is newly addicted. He played for the first time with my dad 2 summers ago, and this past summer he became obsessed. I know "obsessed" is a strong word, but I feel it is appropriate here, lol. He literally played every chance he got. And in November, when we had unseasonably warm weather one day - yup, out to the links. He mainly plays with my best friend's husband, and there are others who join them here and there.

One example of his obsession: There was a commercial on the other night where the product had nothing to do with golf, but there was one screen shot where a guy hit a golf ball off a tee. It was like 3 seconds long. DH: "Ohmygosh, that looks so fun. I miss golf so much." Then he proceeded to go hit plastic balls around in our backyard with the new sand wedge he got for Christmas.

  • Just football & baseball.  He doesn't play anymore but he'll watch football all.day.long on Sunday-grr!  Then he & a friend went in on a weekend season ticket package for the Red's without telling me-double grr!!  I don't really care right now but if we had children I would want him to cut back.  I decided that I'm going to try to do more things for myself every week.  I'm signing up for a photo class this winter & I think a yoga class might be fun too, maybe even cake decorating.  I just need to do more things for myself.  That said, I'm still not 100% happy about the Red's tickets.  I don't care about the money (I even told him to buy a few more expensive individual tickets) but the time away does annoy me b/c we're both so busy during the week.  I think I'm going to ask him to write every single game on the calendar so I know when he'll be gone and tell him a few things I absolutely want to do together this summer.  That way I won't be stuck alone at the last minute.

  • My H's obsession is snowboarding.  I have to hear about it every single day, all year long; its worse when its not in season, he all but cries about not being able to do it.  hehe  Everything reminds him of it and another long conversation ensues.  I'm glad he has a hobby (to be honest he has a LOT of hobbies and they go back and forth depending on what his dad is doing at the moment, and of course they are all expensive) but I get sick of hearing about it all the time.

I really enjoy and do a lot of photography, but don't get out to do much of it during the colder months (nothing worse than being so cold you can't hold the camera very still) b/c I hate being outside in the cold.  I really like reading but it gets boring after awhile, too.  I wish I had some hobbies that were more than a one time deal to keep busy with myself.  I would also enjoy some new people to hang out with!

  • Have you tried taking up golf yourself? One of the nice things about golf is that it's a sport easily enjoyed by both men and women together. Plus it's one you can play your entire life. DH and I really enjoy golfing together.

I've tried. I honestly don't enjoy it. I have flash backs of when I was younger and my dad took my sis and I to the driving range and forced us to hit balls because, as you said, "you can play golf your entire life." Big Smile

And also, I actually don't mind. I think DH and I should have hobbies we enjoy together as well as ones that we enjoy seperately. I'd just like it if golf were cheaper!

(I think maybe you were talking more to OP, but just putting in my 2 cents.) :)

  • YES. My DH has always been obsessed with golf. He subscribes to 2 golf magazines, got tons of golf gear for Christmas (my mom got him balls with his name on them!). And he even takes a week long trip with his buddies to play every June. I'm sorry, but 6 days x 36 holes of golf per day = my idea of hell. But I always say there's worse hobbies he could be into I guess Stick out tongue

Oh, and just because it's winter, your DH can still golf. There's a bar near my house with an indoor golf simulator and my DH and his brother are in a golf league there. So basically golf is a year round love in our household. I feel your pain!

  • LOL!! Same here! I have my own clubs, took some lessons, etc.

I like to play here and there but not as often as he does, plus I suck too!

I'd LOVE to play some laughable golf!

  • LOL! love it!! Yeah, my husband went and hit golf balls the other day when it was 30 degrees outside. My mom got him this putting green for the basement for Christmas. Lets just say he spends a lot of time doing the "laundry". lol! : )

  • Yeah, I like playing. I'm just not trying to go pro. : )

Maybe we could all get together and play sometime!

Hey, we're in Newtown! I like the golf center on Newtown Road because it has a par 3 course....so at least it doesn't take me, like, 30 strokes just to hit the green.  :)

This thread got me to thinking...because I kind of have an addiction, too, while my H really doesn't. So today I asked him if it bothers him that I'm out running so much. He said no, but that I talk about it way too much, and he just wants to say, "I get it. You like to run." LOL - point taken!

  • My husband was on a golf league, need I say more. He also golfs on the weekend, if you need an escape let me know, I am a golf widow lol
  • Yes, H loves golf.  The man is the messiest person I have ever come across. Things being dirty/messy do not bother him....except for his golf clubs.  We are going on vacation tomorrow- he and his dad are playing golf every single morning we're there.  I come home yesterday to a bucket in the middle of the kitchen with his golf clubs "taking a bath" in it.

I suck at golf. I've tried...I don't play golf, I play croquet. Getting the ball to take flight is tough.  I think I need a lesson or two.  I usually take golf cart/cooler duty. I am all down for a get together while the boys are golfing.
