Of course I'd recognize it! I live near Seattle and have been drinking Starbucks for over half my life.
I don't think it's that bad really. I think it's modern and simple. Although, I do agree with anneg and think they should have just dropped "coffee."

Yes I will recognize it. I will recognize it because it will be on the cup of chai tea I just purchased from Starbucks. Unless they change the location of my favorite Starbucks, it will make no difference in my life.
The logo is rather fugly though.
It is because the founder of Bucks was trained and started by Alfred Peet of Peet's Coffee...so he originally used Peet's colors and then decided to completely break ties (which was a good business decision, it makes sense to look different).
