things to bring on a cruise ?

I've been on a couple of cruises before, but those were 5+ years ago, so I'm fuzzy on the important things to pack.

I know it's been mentioned on here to bring a power strip, and I've also been told to bring bungee cords so we can keep our balcony doors open if we want to.

What other things would you add to the "Bet You Didn't Think Of This" list?

Re: things to bring on a cruise ?

  • I never brought a power strip or a bungee cord, but they are good ideas.  I was too busy over packing clothes.

Cruisecritic.com has a lot of great information.  That's where I always went for info.

    Things I never went without..

    Chocolate/Candy

    Books

Travel Alarm Clock (there are never clocks in the cabins)

cord to hook ipod up to TV or CDs to play in the dvd player

Also, you could bring soda and wine and water on board the last two cruises I went on, so we did this.  In which case.. BRING A CORKSCREW!

You can still do this, but you have to pay a corking fee if you bring wine. On Carnival we get to bring a 12 pack of soda or water on board with us, and you can bring more on at every port. The only catch is you have to carry it on yourself, you can't put it in checked luggage. We're definitely taking advantage of this. We aren't bringing wine with us, I'm the only one that would really drink it anyways.

eta: That's a 12 pack of soda or water per person, which is pretty sweet.

  • Who are you cruising with?

I didn't bring a power strip or a bungee cord with me on ours (Royal Carib) and didn't need them either.

I did bring my little iPod radio though to plug my iPod into & play music in our room (and on the beach).

I also packed all of my toiletries into one of those hanging toiletry bags-which worked out awesome b/c it saved so much space in the bathroom! I just hung it from the towel rack.

  • oh! a beach bag! Great for carrying around what you need in port...towels, water, camera, etc. I'm sure you will bring this, but you never know!
  • If you're like some of the girls I saw on the one cruise I've ever done... a prom dress!

    Lol, kidding, obviously.  :)

It is nice to have a couple of cocktail dresses along with the sundresses for the fancy eveninings.  I think pp's covered everything else.

Have fun, I wish I could go!

Carnival. From what I've read on the Cruise Critic forums you need bungee cords to keep the balcony doors open. ?? I don't know, but I'm bringing them just in case.

We were on Carnival for our honeymoon and forgot the bungee cords.  I don't think we would have used them anyway though.  Whenever we were on the balcony we just let the door shut behind us, and when we were in the room we never really wanted to open the door.

Don't forget to bring stuff in case you get an upset stomach like pepto, immodium, etc.  From what I've read on cruise critic those aren't something you really want to go to the infirmary for.

This! If you have to go to the infirmary for any illness that they think will spread you will be quarantined to your room for at least 24 hrs (maybe up to the end of the trip).  Didn't happen to any of our guests on our cruise but we heard some stories from past cruisers.

You probably already have these on your list, but I bring a travel size hand sanitizer, sun screen & aloe (if you're going somewhere tropical), bandaides, and a small thing of bathroom air freshner Embarrassed. I would also bring some Bonine (sea sickness meds) in case the weather is bad.

    HTH!

  • Thanks for the tips! I hadn't thought of using one of those toiletries bags that hangs on the door - that's a great idea... especially since I seem to have to many "products" now. lol.

I think I get WAY too much pleasure out of making the packing lists for when I go on vacation. It's a sickness.
