Can your cat open doors?
We have two cats (10 months old now) and one of them is becoming a pro at opening our bedroom door. A few days ago he learned how to push the door in. Today I locked them in there for about an hour while I was mopping and to my surprise, he figured out how to open the door to get out. Our doors have the handles, not knobs.
I've seen videos of cats doing this, but don't know how common it is. I'm fairly certain it's just one of them that has learned how to do it so far.
Re: Question for cat owners
lol Oh my gosh! I really hope he doesn't figure out how to open up the fridge! Never would have thought about that.
Thankfully he can't open the fridge we have now, the door is too heavy. With the last fridge that he could open we ended up having to put a baby lock on it!
omigod, that's hilarious!!! i'm glad none of our cats are so talented. it's always the smart cats that give you a the most trouble.
I remember reading somewhere once, cats are perfect burglers/escape artists. If they want to get something or get out/into something they will find a way to do it. I've often found this is true.
Our cats tend to wake us up around 4:30-5:30 am every day trying to get us to play and feed them so we started locking them out of the bedroom. We don't actually lock the door, just take them outside and close it. But one of them has figured out how to open the door sometimes, which completely amazes me because the door has a round handle.

My cat is a genius cat, I think. If our doors did not have round knobs, she would for sure be able to open them. Luckily, they all have round knobs, but she is smart enough to know the knobs are what gets her in and out (she'll sit on the counter or a piece of furniture and try to turn the knobs)
If we don't completely latch the door, she can definitely knock it open

I hope he doesn't start trying to get into the cabinets too! I didn't realize this was somewhat common for cats. I shouldn't be too surprised this cat is able to do these things. His foster mom named him Hunter because he was the one out of the litter to take initiative in food and play. We've since renamed him, but the name was probably very fitting.
I've also been wondering if I'm latching the door completely or not. I'll have to pay more attention.
Our cats know how to open cabinets. In our old apartment we got baby locks for all of them because they'd go in there. Without our knives, cleaning chemicals, champagne glasses, etc. And one of them would purposefully open and let it shut just so it would bang and wake us up in the middle of the night so he could get some attention. Eventually we locked all of them except for one because one would like to hide in there (it had his food so it was ok).
Then he did this (climbed out the back of the drawer):
He's crazy.

So far I haven't had a door opening cat, but I've had a few cabinet/drawer opening and crawling up into the upper drawers. It's backfired on one of our cats, she got caught in a dresser because she opened the drawer, crawled in, crawled up...we shut the drawer not knowing she was in there. took a while before she was released
Not yet but mine are pretty smart. If the door is shut but not shut all of the way they will stand on their hind legs and push the door open with their paws.
One of my two actually took H's wallet off of the counter and hid it in their cushy cat house. Another time, we put treats on top of the refrigerator (next to the stove) and one of them figured out how to grab it...ate half of the bag and treats and hid it.
