MIL Xmas Gift

You all will probably not believe this, as I had a hard time believing it myself, but for the second year in a row, MIL gave me a cheap Snuggie knockoff.  This one is even cheaper and more flammable than the one I got last year.  You can see a photo here.  It's called a "Snug Sack."

Needless to say that I opened it on Saturday night and promptly dropped it off at Goodwill on Sunday morning.

I know it should be the thought that counts, but she puts absolutely NO thought into the gift giving experience, which is why I feel no guilt or shame about complaining about her gift giving here.

Re: MIL Xmas Gift

  • you have to be kidding, she is ridiculous.

I love that you found a picture of it on ebay :)

  • Ahh, your MIL :) I love the two years in a row!!

I have tried to say my MIL is getting better about putting thought into gifts. But when she buys her 34 year old son a 14-16 youth sweatshirt and the sweatpants to match are mens XXL, I realize she just buys what's on sale. hahaha. Not to mention she bought SIL and I both match isotoner iPhone gloves (neither of us has an iPhone). :)

  • Ugh. You are right. It is the thought that counts and a cheap version of the same thing two years in a row indicates little to no thought. Boo to your MIL.  I think you were right to drop that gift off at Goodwill ASAP!
  • WTF is wrong with her!?!?  She really doesn't remember that she gave you one last year?

I have the opposite problem - MIL does too much, gives over the top gifts, but she does it for the recognition.   It's like she wants the credit for the best gift.  And I hate saying that.

  • Mother of pearl- a regular Snuggies is bad enough (sorry Snuggie lovers!), but a knock off not once, but two Christmases in a row?! Come the eff on! Too bad you couldn't exchange for something of equal price that would be a lot more satisfying, like say, a martini??? Drinks You should wrap it back up & give it to her for the next holiday (Mother's Day, birthday, etc.) and see what she says...

  • I think I said this last year, but it is worth saying again how freaking hard would it be for her to get you a Starbucks giftcard?  Maybe she thinks it's impersonal, but at this point I think you would take impersonal over unusable :)

My IL's were great with gifts this year.  They set an amount to spend on each of us and MIL went shopping with DH and bought him some nice new clothes including a Columbia jacket.  My amount went towards my elliptical.  So much better than useless stuff that just collects dust.

OMG!  I would throw a party if she ever got me a Starbucks giftcard!  I won't hold my breath!

  • Your MIL and Erin's should get together to exchange gifts.  I'd love to see what they come up with for one another.

  • Just when I think your MIL can't sink any lower with her gifts: kablam! She hits one out of the park (way out in left field, of course!).

I hope you didn't have to open the gift in front of her-- because holding THAT poker face would earn you an Oscar!

I did have to open it in front of her, and anyone who has met me knows that I wear my thoughts on my face...

I agree! Next time save it and give it back to her! I can't complain about my MIL, she's awesome and super thoughtful with gifts.

Just be glad your husband isn't like her in that respect right?
