Obama supporters: voter protection efforts
The Obama campaign is putting together Counsel for Change, voter protection efforts. My DH is going to somewhere in middle-of-nowhere Virginia to monitor voting, and I'm going with him to volunteer.
If you're interested in volunteering on election day or before:

I'm going to spend the whole day working at the polls or otherwise in one of the major swing states. I'm so excited!!
Re: Obama supporters: voter protection efforts
I signed up a while back. I have my training tomorrow! My workplace is pretty flexible about time off, as long as you have your work done. I'm not sure yet if I'll do a full day or half day of poll watching. I'm pretty pumped!
Awesome bridey! Do you know where you're assigned yet? We'll definitely be in VA b/c our friend's friend is organizing the entire VA effort.
Let me know how the training goes! Are you an attorney? I don't know yet what attorneys can do vs what I can do, esp if they tell me what to watch for. But I guess a lawyer would have more street cred on an illegal happening
No, I don't know where I'll be yet. I guess I'll be able to choose tomorrow or something. If I do a half day, it would be convenient for me to be downtown, but that might be craaaaazy.
My guess is that depending on your education and the area's needs, you might be doing the same thing. I know that I am going to get trained on what to look for, what to say, etc. But if there is a serious problem, I'm pretty sure you call the counsel at an office. I mean, I know that my job precludes me from doing actual lawyering (conflict of interest), and I'm still able to do it.
Awesome, FBR! And that's great you can be so close! I'm actually pretty bummed that I won't be casting my vote on election day (we'll have to leave super early to get to whereever we're going), so we have to do absentee. It's not ideal, but I'll still get the whole "at the polls" experience -- perhaps even more so!
I'm practically giddy!
I don't know it we'll work all day. I really want to be home well before results are in. I suppose if polls close at 7, and we're 1-2 hours away, we'll be fine.
Squeeeeeeeeee!
(I have to note that that was my first official use of the word Squeee. I'm not sure I'm ok with it, but it seemed like the right thing to do!)
