You really can't/aren't supposed to use steam mops on laminate floors???

Nope. Steam + laminate floors = bowed, warped mess. I believe most companies will void the warranty if you do use one.
Steam mops are best left to ceramic, stone and vinyl. Wood and wood laminate need to be cared for in a more delicate manner.

FWIW, my MIL has used hers on laminate for years with no problems. My mom and I both use our on wood as well with no problems.
Not saying that makes it a sure thing, just sayin'
