Terrible news for brides in my town

One of the nicer wedding ceremony/reception venues in our town just closed.  There are lots of brides have this place booked through the rest of the year.  They are being forced to find new places.

My heart aches for these girls!  First of all they all found out from the news!!!  The company says the brides should be getting a letter informing them of the closure, but they found out on the news first.  Ummmmm.....I think something like that requires a phone call.  And it is closed immediately, so if you had a function booked there this weekend you are out of luck.  Interestingly, this facility is within a restuarant (run by the same family) and the restaurant isn't closing.  You would think if they are keeping part of the business open they could at least follow through with the commitments they have already made.

This was one of the nicer venues in our town.  There are not a lot of nice places to get married here (finding one was probably the most stressful part of my process) and they book up fast!   I was in tears when my event coordinator left a week before the wedding, but at least I had a place!  I can't imagine what these girls are feeling.

And yes I know there are more terrible things in the world than a venue closing, but to those brides this is probably all consuming right now.

Update: The news just broke that the two restaurants the family owns at the dock area on the river are now closing too.  So I guess they couldn't do the weddings even if they wanted to now.  (Reason for closing: they owe back rent and taxes)

This, absolutely.  I wonder how the way they handled this may affect the business their restaurant does.  I definitely feel for the brides and others who were counting on this as their venue!

    "You're the L and the V, I'm the O and the E...Am I speaking clearly?"

Wow.  That takes frikkin ba!ls!!  I wouldn't have the heart to show my face in a small town when you just ripped the carpet out from under Brides, and any other people that had scheduled events there - and you want people to continue to come in and eat?!  Seriously, I'd never eat there again.

  • That's aweful! We only had one really nice venue in our town, and it closed down a few years ago. There's another smaller one that's attached to a diner, but isn't that nice, and doesn't have much parking.

  • Ugh that's terrible! I feel for those brides! They could have at least finished out the remaining events and not booked anymore future ones. What a shame :(

  • That breaks my heart. I feel for them. I was only engaged 2.5 months finding a venue in that short of time was tough- so i get it. And I chose to find a venue in that little time it wasn't just thrown on me. poor girls I hope it works out for them!

  • Christie,  are you talking about Old Navy Bistro???  I'm actually from Perrysburg :P

I actually used to work at one of the restaurants on the docks (Real Seafood)- that would be hella terrible for Toledo to loose that place :(

And I totally hear on Toledo not having many good wedding spots.

I would love to be able to say "I got married in my hometown", but Columbus just had so many great options, and the Toledo are just doesn't :(

  • I just saw that on the news yesturday too!  It is terrible, I wonder what will happen to their deposits; I don't know how much those were but sometimes can be alot.  But I do agree with you there are plenty of places in town, just hope they find one before the invatations go out!

Yep, its Navy Bistro.  And agreed...this town is horrible to plan a nice wedding!  My sisters and I all say we need to open a nice (but not crazy expensive) wedding/banquet facility around here.  Just to give the poor girls another option!
