I get to meet Sen. Klobuchar!

My school is receiving the Minnesota School of Excellence tomorrow and we just got word today that Senator Klobuchar will be in attendance!

I'm really not that in to politics...but I feel like I'm getting to meet a celebrity. Anyone else had a run-in with a local {or not local} celebrity that made them feel important?

Re: I get to meet Sen. Klobuchar!

  • That's exciting for your school!

I met Amy Klobuchar a really long time ago - I just looked up wikipedia info on her and it must have been in 1998 when she ran for Hennepin County Attorney.  I remember her sitting in my office waiting for someone to meet her.

I worked at a nice apartment building in Mpls and met a few local celebrities, mostly sports players.  The only names I can really remember are Trent Tucker and Stephon Marbury.  There were other Timberwolves and Twins players.  And Steve Gutenberg toured our building because he was going to film in Mpls.

My co-worker at the time dated Johny Lang's dad, so I got to go backstage at a Johny Lang concert at Gabe's (before I was 21 - woohoo! my 1st time at a bar!)

I think my latest "celebrity" run in is that DH's cousin is the whistleblower in the Tom Petters case.

MN related: I met Garrison Keillor when my choir did a Thanksgiving concert with him.  He's....interesting.  :-)

Non MN related: My "longest" experience was when Brendan Fraser came to Iowa State to stump for John Kerry. He was soooooooooo nice.  He introduced a movie about Kerry in Vietnam and stayed while it played (I sat one row behind him and stared at the back of his head quite a bit totally starstruck.)  After the movie he stayed and talked for a long time and took lots of pictures with people.  He apologized for all of his bad movies but said, "Hey, they paid for my house."  I think I'll always be a fan no matter how many bad movies he makes because he was so nice.

  • I rode in the elevator at the St. Paul Hotel once with Bill Murray.  He was in town visiting the Saints.  I also sold cookware to Derek Boogard when I worked at my old part time job.  That's all that I know of though!

Oooh, I rode in an elevator with Rick Springfield in Des Moines the night before he played the Iowa State fair.  :-)

I didn't know who he was until after the fact but he did exude a "rock start vibe" so I figured I would look him up.   :-)

    Thats awesome!  Big Smile

  • Amy's really nice, and mildly comedic.  She was at our State Convention in November and I got my picture with her and Al, and she gave me the folder she did her speech from...who knew that the US Senate actually had custom embossed folders :)

Twice?  Jealous!!  I forgot about him.  We talked to him (and got a hug) after a concert a few years ago at the Orpheum (before I was huge fan....I was a little fan then, hah.)  I think I will always love and adore him.

We were in the 2nd row standing on the floor for his concert at the Myth a couple of years ago.  We were so close I could see the beads of sweat on his face.  So while he didn't talk to ME, it was awfully close and I loved it.  :-)  But then some drunk a-hole thought he could crouch in front of me and basically shove his butt in my crotch....I think that was the closest Ted has ever come to punching someone's lights out.  Indifferent

I've met a couple of huge names in the choral musical world but most people aren't familiar with them so I don't usually mention them.  :-)

  • I've met most semi well-known people in MN politics, but only because I work in politics, but it is still fun nonetheless. :)  Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken are both great. I know that people have mixed feelings about Mark Dayton, but in person he is actually really great too.  Tarryl Clark is wonderful, and actually John "Bowzer" Bowman from the Shananas (if anyone knows who they are even) came out to my office this summer so I met him.

I have not ever met any other celebs outside of politics which is very sad to me. I have determined that at some point I must meet someone famous, just to have the story. :)

Lots of love and continual explosions of babydust to my BG Besties! XOXOXOXO

  • Bob Dylan is my grandma's cousin. She was a Zimmerman. I've never met him, but it's kind of a brush with fame.

Jeff Passolt goes to my church, I had his daughter in my Sunday school class back when he was on Channel 11 doing sports.

I rode in an elevator with Dennis Rodman when the Bulls were in town and I was at a conference at the city center marriot. SCARY.

  • Rachael Leigh Cook (She's All That) and Josh Hartnett both went to my high school.  Rachael's younger brother was a grade older than me, and we actually dated for awhile in high school  I never met Rachael because she was living in California, but their family is really nice.

Mr. Cook (forgot his first name - Rachael's dad) worked at my middle school in Bloomington.  :-)  They have the same eyes if I remember correctly...

Someone who was semi-famous for a couple years went to Richfield High School and we looked him up in an old yearbook once.  I am forgetting his name...off to check IMDB...oh yes.  Jason Behr from Roswell.

Being "famous" is so interesting to me.  I would never ever ever ever want to be famous yet other people will do just about anything to get some recognition.

  • Steve Zahn went to Cooper in Robbinsdale. My son's dad went there but Zahn is 5 years older than him. I bet [my son's father's] older sisters went to school with him though.
  • Seann William Scott is from the area too, isn't he?  Yep...IMDB says Cottage Grove.

    Interesante.  :-)

Yep, he went to the same high school as my H.  I think he graduated with my SIL.

  • I saw Steve Zahn at Como Zoo once with his family. They were hanging out by the giraffes, he offered to take a photo of us and played with my niece a little. Seemed like a really nice guy.

I used to be an assistant teacher at a dance studio, Dave Dahl's girls were in my classes.

Other than that, I'm a lot like Kiz....I have a lot of connections in the classical music world and I've met some interesting 'celebrities' in that circuit.

  • My grandma was Sen. Klobuchar's Sunday School teacher back in the day. :-)
