Skiing and pregnant??

did you do it?

I'm going tomorrow, a bit nervous. I skied while pregnant with my first pregnancy, but that pregnancy didn't work out. Doc gave me the thumbs up, soooo....

Re: Skiing and pregnant??

  • If you've gotten the go ahead from your doctor and you're comfortable with your skills, I say go for it! In my heyday of skiing a few years back, I would have probably gone, but since I'm a bit rusty now (and generally accident prone), I don't think I'd go, but whatever's comfortable for you should be fine (and can I add I'm a little envious of you hitting the trails???).

  • Yeah, since I was pregnant two winters ago, and then literally just had a baby last winter (breast pumping in a lodge bathroom not recommended), I haven't been able to get much time on the slopes.

  • I'd say go for it, but you know-- no hotdoggin' or crazy black diamond trails, obviously! LOL  My old aerobics instructor was in high-impact aerobic classes two days before her due date (of course, she said she had to lower the level of her step) and she had no issues. If the doc gave you the clearance, I'd say the exercise is probably good for you and the babe. A happy momma makes for a happy baby, right?

  • If my doctor gave me the thumbs up and I was confident in my skills, I would absolutely go.  It's good exercise and will make you happy!

  • I would not go personally.  Everything I've read, and my OB/midwife have said to avoid any sports where falling is an increased possibility...plus, your balance and center of gravity are different than normal.  That being said, it's obviously a very personal decision so I hope you have a fun weekend either way!

Ditto this.  Cross-country, maybe, but not downhill.

  • I wouldn't feel comfortable but probably because I'm not super comfortable with skiing not pregnant!  But like Kristen and MM said, I'd be worried about falling, and would probably be too stressed to have fun.

  • I would (and did) do cross country.  But I wouldn't do downhill...not b/c of my skills...but b/c I wouldn't trust the other wackos on the slopes.  Especially if it's busy.  But I'm a worrier.
