Ugh... MEN!!!

Drew and his dad have been down in our basement for 3 hours trying to figure out how to lay the new floor. Dude! Just freaking start laying it!

The part tripping them up is that the floor that we bought came pre-cut in three sizes. The only thing that matters is that the two rows touching each other don't have seams that match up. Just lay the boards in a specific pattern. When you get to the end, cut the board, then take the other portion of it and use it to start the next row. It's not rocket science, is it?

If it's a wood floor there is a pattern of 3 that should be followed so the boards don't all end up with the seam at the same place. It take a little bit to get the first 3 or 4 rows down. After that it goes pretty quick. It took DH about a day to do our wood floor and our room isn't that big.

Do you remember the pattern? I keep telling them to do that, but they also have to use up the other portion that they cut as long as it's longer than 6". Can't they just use that to start the next row?

All I know of the pattern is that the seams are at 3 different locations: Low, high, low. But the 2 lows are at different levels from each other. I had to look at my floor to see what it was.

If the pieces they cut should be able to be used in the pattern. I would ask DH but he's in bed asleep already.

It's not meant to be perfect, right? I mean, as long as no seams line up with each other, that's all that matter, right?

They're still at it downstairs. I'm curious to see if any floor gets laid tonight. I'm betting no! Haha!!

That's right, as long as the seams don't match up next to each other.

Hopefully the floor will be done tomorrow.

Maybe there is more beer drinking than floor laying going on (jking!)

They may have a harder time if the room isn't square, they could lay a few rows and it is off and then have to start over. I'm no expert, but this is what I hear on HGTV

Good news is you are on your way to a new floor!

Well, they've been started. Last I saw there were about 5 rows done. I hope to have the room completely done and put back together by this time next week. We're replacing the doors and trim too. I'll need to pick up a few decorative pieces and it'll be complete!

Scott would not even attempt it and would hire it out to begin with. So I commend them for doing the work but I am sure listening to them contemplating for so long is annoying.

Oh but anyway post pics!!!! I love new floors!

Justin & I put new floors in the temp. nursery before Avery came along and got so tired with it not snapping in place properly and staying down that I finally told him to just nail it. He told me that wasn't how it was supposed to go & he'd get it.

Needless to say about 20mins after that conversation he nailed them in place.

Ha! I hope you didn't gloat too much. LOL! FWIW, I think that they probably didn't snap together easily because of the grooves on the boards that you bought. The ones that we bought have an extra "lip" to them, so they have a better seal. The guy told us that they are easier to snap together and create a better seal for a longer lasting floor. I don't know how true that is, just what we were told.
