I Feel Like Dirt

For reals, y'all! I am so pleased that my grumpy boss (who took an extra helping of his gripeaid this morning) has bestowed whatever the eff kind of cold he has on me, and just in time for the weekend. Thanks Unkie T. I'm waiting for a call back from the nurse about what is OK to take while preggo to make these symptoms more tolerable- does anyone have any helpful suggestions? I'm currently sucking down decaf green tea w/ organic honey, and I've been drinking a ton of water. I'd rather not have to take any meds, but if this gets worse I don't know if I can hold out. Thanks!

Re: I Feel Like Dirt

  • I remember when I got my first cold durin first trimester. It sucked.  I was feeling the exact same way as you.  If I remember I called my husband to pick me up something, but I then decided to hold off and go to bed.  At that point I decided no meds for me at least until after 1st trimester.

However with that said, here is the list from baby center that I followed, but listen to what your doctor tells you. I know I took Benadryl a couple of times during 2nd trimester. Hope you feel better.

Here are a few drugs that are okay to take during pregnancy:

The antihistamines chlorpheniramine, loratadine, doxylamine, brompheniramine, phenindamine, pheniramine, triprolidine, and diphenhydramine are considered low risk during pregnancy, but they can make you sleepy, especially doxylamine and diphenhydramine

  • I am pretty sure that I took cold medicine while pregnant.  I wasn't very strict with myself, although I did follow the doctor's recommendations.  I would wait and see what the nurse tells you.  Sorry my bad memory isn't more help!

  • Tylenol.  Benadryl if you can't sleep.

None of the really good stuff is ok during pregnancy.  Antihistamines won't do you any good if you just have a cold.
