do you keep pic. cards from x-mas etc.

I'm trying to really declutter and get very organized this year. I have a drawer filled with old picture christmas cards, baby annoucements etc. I feel bad throwing them out but there just sitting there taking up space. What do you do with stuff like this?

Re: do you keep pic. cards from x-mas etc.

  • I got a few cheap magnetic picture frames from Walmart and cut the Christmas greeting off of a few of the cards that I got and I keep them up on my fridge.  Each year I cycle out the pictures of my nephews, friends' kids, etc.  I don't really keep the ones from the people that I'm not that close to - or birth announcements for that matter.  Those get thrown away after a little while.
  • I hung a framed cork board in our office area that I use to hang pictures from friends and family.  I cut off the Christmas greeting (or baby announcement, etc) and just keep the picture.  As I get new ones, I trade them out for the old ones.
  • I hang them up and then throw them out once I take down all the other Xmas decorations.

Baby announcements, etc.. get put up on the fridge (assuming it's a friend or family member) for a month or so and then I throw them out.

I guess I don't see what I would do with them after that, to keep them?? My mom keeps them all and puts them in her scrapbook. But then again, my parent's house is full of clutter and she has a hard time throwing things out...when I was there over Xmas, I found a large stack of Xmas cards from 2007 in the guest room. I think I tend to overcompensate and do the complete opposite of my parents ;)

  • I usually keep one picture from each family member in a little display in our office and when they send a new one (announcement, card, etc) I just toss the old one.  If it was my own child I could see holding on to all the pictures, but if I kept the pictures from everyone it would just get out of hand

  • just after the holidays i cut the cards apart~ frame the pictures in little picture frame ornaments from michaels, decorated with the year~ and re-gift them back to the sender. this way they can pack them up with their holiday goods, and hang them for years to come. also can do the same with birth announcements 'if they are small enough'  I hope they arent offended by this:) i think its a cool thing to do.

otherwise, after they have been displayed for a while I toss em in the recycle bin~ i dont have patience or space to store them...what for? who cares anyway, just kidding.

    All you need is love...
  • I am having this isssue myself - I am going to just put them in an album/scrapbook. Most of my family is a few states away, so I don't like throwing photos away of people I never see... it's often the only pictures I get to see of some of the kids as they grow.
