back story - my driver's license needs to be renewed this year (not until April). I received a letter from the RMV last week saying in comparing their data with social security, there is a discrepancy in my information that needs to be corrected or they WILL NOT process any license transaction for me (yes, in bold caps). The letter included the info - my name Kara M T_____, my SSN, and my DOB - said if it looked correct, the issue was with the SS office and to call them.
So today I call the SS office. The woman I spoke to said things look fine, the only thing she said was that they have my full name as Kara Marie T______. OK, fine, so you have my full middle name, the RMV has my initial. big deal.
So I call the RMV. The woman I spoke to there asks for my info and then says that's not the name they have on file - they have my maiden name. I said, well I got married almost 2.5 years ago. She proceeds to ask (in a tone like she's speaking to a child) if I went to the SS office with my marriage certificate, blah blah. I cut her off and said yes, the month after we got married and I even have a license with my married name on it. She goes, oh, well, then I'll just change it to match SS and you're good - disregard the letter.
way to go RMV, way to go.

What a headache. Glad things were easily fixed though! (well, once you got ahold of them
)
Boo, that is annoying!
My mom got her passport a few years ago for a cruise. Her passport and driver's license were in her married name (married for 30+ years). in 2009 they moved from Wisconsin to Arkansas. She applied for a new driver's license in AR and they told her that she never legally changed her name with SSA. Of course she had, she wouldn't have been able to get all those other things including filing taxes if she hadn't ...
AR DMV: "oh yeah, that's true, we'll change it"
