I've been needing a new laptop for a really long time, and now that I've started my student teaching I have an excuse to buy one! Tomorrow we're going to go look at Mac's. Does anyone have one? Do you love it? Which one do you recommend? Thanks ladies!
Re: Anyone have a Mac?
I have one. I've owned macs for 10 years, as has my H. If you're used to PCs it'll take a little getting used to, but honestly they're so user-friendly it's ridiculous. I recommended a Macbook Pro, with at least a 15-inch screen. It has enough USB ports that you're not going nuts and constantly switch your inputs around. I'd stay away from the Air - as cool and lightweight as they are, I believe it only has 1 USB port and that's never enough.
I also HIGHLY recommend getting a neoprene sleeve. It's protected my baby better than any case I've ever had before. Feel free to ask away if you have more questions!
RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.
You made my wedding day complete.
Funny you should ask....DH and I just bought a MacBook Pro LAST NIGHT! We've only had PCs before so it was a pretty big leap.
I love it so far. The only thing is you have to make sure to buy the windows word and power point and stuff with it. We got the 13 inch because I want it to be more portable and the bigger screen adds weight and cost. Most of the teachers at my school have macs, and I've been convinced that they are just better machines overall. I am literally amazed by the speed so far. I think what my husband said is true...once you go mac you never go back! haha.
We went to Best Buy and got $100 off because I'm still technically a student at Ohio State. I also know you can get a 5% discount through the mac website if you are a teacher or a student. $100 off is better if you can grab that! I don't know if its a local thing or not.
my read shelf:
I first got one in 2004 when I needed to do some video editing for my dissertation. I started with a 15 inch, then that ended up being a lab computer... and I have 12 inch now. I highly recommend the pro as well- i have it's predecessor- the powerbook- and have dropped it numerous times and it still works (with just one slight bent edge). I've had this one for nearly 6 years! The logic board (apple's equivalent of a mother boar) died nearly 2 years ago, and apple's repair service was less than anything else I found on the web. I brought it into an apple store on a monday night, and got the call Tuesday night that it was back from CA and already fixed!
I talked my sister into getting macs for her business 4 years ago, too. She loves them. She was spending so much money on IT... and has barely had to since switching over.
I have an old HP that I was able to get up and running. Other then having to be plugged in continuously, it seems to be running okay. So rather then spend the money right away, I'm going to try this out for a week or two. If it doesn't work well enough, then we're going to go get a Mac.
I know for sure I want one, I just can't justify spending the money when my other one is still working. Dang it! Thanks for all of the replies though! Hopefully we'll be investing soon. I think when we do invest, we'll go with one of the MacBook Pros.
I don't blame you. We do the same thing. Why replace something if it is working? DH has an old desktop that wasn't working and he wanted to replace. But he did a little work and has gotten it up and running. We are using this and hoping it lasts 2-3 years so we don't have to buy one. We both use laptops most of the time. The desktop is just for finances, pictures, etc.
I hope it works out for you!
I don't know if this will help you much- but I have a 5 year old Acer laptop. It continuously had to be plugged-in for the last year or two. I finally ordered a new battery for it online and it made a huge difference! It went from being connected to the wall at all time to being able to be away for about 2 hours. Maybe you could try that? It might at least give you some more time to save up for the new one
